Just some news and notes to run down for Neca coming out of the 2004 Fall Preview Toy Show being held this week in New York City.
prototype 2-ups were on display for Neca's new line of
Sin City figures based on the upcoming block buster movie with Brice Willis and Jessica Alba. I must say the detail on these were dead on. The actual figure line will be done in 7" scale. There will be 2 different versions of each figure. A regular painted version and a black and white version depicting the characters as they have traditionaly appeared in the comic and in the upcoming movie. Sorry no images of the proto's were allowed at this time.
As we repoted
yesterday, Neca is doing
Hitchhickers Guide To The Galaxy figures based on the another upcoming major motion picture.
Neca will also be launching a new
Cult Classics 7" line featuring characters from many of your favorite cult classic movie. The first series among other will include a scaled down version of their 19" Jason Voorhees figure that was based on Friday the 13th: The New Blood. Randy Falk from Neca tells us that this line will also include figure treatment for characters that have never been made into plastic. He also points out that a few figures from the Grimlins second series may be sprinckled into this line, if the second series itself were not make it to retail.
Following the huge success of their Halloween and Crow
Diorama Boxsets Neca will be doing a new set to help celebrate the Friday the 13th 25th Anniversary set. This set will feature Jason Voorhees and his mother in sometype of scene re-creation from the orginal movie.
Randy also tells us the
Kill Bill series 2 is still set to be released. It has just been delayed so that it can be released in conjunction with an upcoming Special Edition Kill Bill Vol. 1 and 2 DVD set. Among others this second series of figures will include the much anticipated Bill figure. There is also the upcoming
A second series of
Pirates of the Caribbean figures are also in the works. set which is slated to have zombie versions of Jack Sparrow and Barbossa. There will also be an Elizabeth Swann figure which many fans of the movie have been asking for.
For
Masters of the Universe fans, Randy tells us that they have something really cool for collectors coming in their statue and bust line sculpted by the 4-Horsemen. Randy wouldn't give us specifics but if we had to speculate it sounds like we might be getting smaller scaled statues of our favorite characters. Scaling down large expensive statues to something like 6" to help get the cost down has been a popular trend lately for this type of product but we will have to wait and see if indeed that is what Neca is planning.
Neca is still in the process of securing the likness rights of the actors from the film so that they can do figures of the main characters for their second series of
Ghost Buster figures, should know something very soon about these including images.
Finally Randy tells us that they have not given up on getting the Lord of the Rings
Balrog released. They are at this time looking to find ways to get the price down on this huge but awsome looking beast. One of the things they are looking at is using rotocast for certain parts of the toy. Rotocast is a cheaper method of sculpting and Neca has had success with it in keeping the detail of the figure with such things like their Stay-Puff figure from their Ghost Buster line. They are hoping to be able to make a well designed detailed Balrog figure and still have a price point somewhere in the $70 range. To get a peak at this bad boy, be sure to check out our images from this past summers
SDCC.
