It always struck me as weird that Jurassic Park wouldn't have restrooms made out of bricks like most zoos.

So unless if people at the Con get some sort of early access link then making this an online item means it will be more difficult for people at the convention to order than what it will be for people at home. People sitting at home can have multiple devises/computers/browsers set ready to go and refresh. Meanwhile at the convention all you have is your cellular devise which is not only limited normally but on top of that with an extra 150,000 people occupying the convention center and surrounding areas youre unlikely to get a solid signal that isnt either slow or dropping out. Plus 9AM is typically exactly when security starts moving the lines. This means that you need to be paying attention to what youre doing/where youre walking so youre not bumping into people, tripping down the escalator, holding up the 10s of thousands of people standing behind you in line, etc. By the time you go through all that and end up reaching where ever youre going at the convention and can focus on trying to get a good signal to place an order 10 or 15 minutes has passed in which case most items will be sold out.
Nobody likes not being successful at picking up these exclusives but making it so that its actually way less likely for people at SDCC to successfully get an SDCC exclusive compared to people not at SDCC makes zero sense.
