Indiana Jones Q&A With Hasbro Round #7

by Jay Cochran
September 26, 2008
The folks who work on the new Indiana Jones toy line at Hasbro have agreed to do a regular Q&A session with us here at TNI regarding their new toy line hitting shelves now.

TNI: Will there be any kind of exclusives released with the upcoming Crystal Skull DVD?

Hasbro: The only plans to tie in to the DVD release are a series of Wal-Mart 3-packs (similar to the Star Wars DVD-timed 3-packs we do as a running series). However, none of the figures will be different than the way they appeared on basic figure cards. There will be additional exclusives later in the Fall for Target and Toys 'R Us, but again there will be no differences, only the package configuration.

TNI: It's been said that the longevity of this line would be based on sales. If by chance the level of sales for this line was not enough for retailers to continue to carry it, would there be any chance of Hasbro continuing the lime in some sort of limited release through someplace like the HasbroToyShop in the future?

Hasbro: If the continued sales of the line were not strong enough for retailers to carry, then online-only would not be a solution either. We have found from our research that only a small fraction of collectors actually shop online, instead preferring to find figures at retail for the most part. Based on the volumes we need to manufacture figures, HasbroToyShop.com could not carry the volume needed.

If you would like to ask a question of this team, head over to our FORUMS and post it. We may use it in a our next Q&A which will take place on October 10, 2008.

It took months for me to find about half the Last Crusade figures I wonder how long it will be for me to finf the TOD figures

I figure that they should have kept the same amount of figures, but done it the opposite way on myself. Perhaps it would have worked better releasing the Crystal Skull figures FIRST and then done the classic movies. Perhaps it would have worked, but erhaps it would have faled, I dunno.

The other thing I wou;ld have changed was the release dates. Release dates are important for sales and well, I've found out that compact waves released not long after each other seems to work. It gets boring waiting for figures to come out. I mean the Last Crusade wave hit in June, yet the ToD Wave has only just hit

But there is one solution to this line, how to make it last longer.

1) STOP PACKING IN OLD FIGURES WITH THE NEW ASSORTMENTS!!!! only give us new figures.

I don't feel that has had ANY impact on the line. Star Wars and GI Joe routinely cycle in older figures ALL THE TIME and eventually sell through, and many of the people working on INdy cut their teeth on one or both lines in the past.

As said before, the weak reception by kids, parents and collectors and overly high retailer estimates are what ultimately killed this line, not any specific issue with the figures or marketing.

It's not the main reason but it did add fuel to the fire and certainly does not help. The Star Wars and GI Joes eventually sell, the Indy figures are not moving, period. They have been on pegs since they were first stocked and just continue to pile up without a single figure selling. Even online stores have the Indy and Mutt figures marked down cheaper than all the others while everyone else is sold out. They have been on the pegs long enough that if they were going to move they would have by now. The guys like Duke, Cobra Commander, Snake Eyes, Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader and Obi-Wan move alot faster than that.

thats the thing, DTC was only meant to be a HTS exclusive series, but that failed...so I guess they don't want a repeat of that

Sucks that we won't be getting the ROTLA wave. I hate that they are so unwilling to go the online route. If Mattel can do it, they should take a chance as well.

I believe they should do one thing....just release the 09 raiders wave like they said they would and then end the line in 2009. That would make everyone happy then

the_punisher4321 - 2008-09-27 @ 6:58 pm

Hasbro should just cancel this line now. End the suffering.

I just think its a nightmare that they;'ve been teasing this stuff for a while now and then said no to it all. Its time hasbro pulled their finger out. They know it, we know it....
