The full interview with
Hasbro's CEO Chris Cocks we told you about the other day is now up on
Yahoo Finance. In the interview Cocks talks about things like how Hasbro is looking to things like videos games more and more and will be releasing a new console game next year called EXODUS which is An Epic Sci-Fi RPG game. He also mentions how Magic The Gathering has been a big performer for the company and talked about crossovers with Marvel and Spider-Man and later this year Avatar: The Last Airbender.
For toys he talked about Tariffs and the possibility that the pending trade war could raise prices on products and if they tried switching to producing physical plastic toys just in the US that in of itself would be around a 5 year process that would also raise prices as much as 50%. He mentions one of the reasons for that is not just labor costs but also a lacking plastics industry supply chain, that was exported to Asia decades ago. He also mentions that if they were to move all production back to the US then they would likely have to reduce employment because they would need to focus more on things like automation to try and keep costs down as much as possible.
He also mentions products that are geared towards adult collectors have more elasticity when it comes to prices, meaning they can produce higher priced products because that consumer is more willing to pay them as opposed to things made for just younger kids who's parents will be less willing to spend more money on toys.
Finally Cocks was asked what his favorite toy was growing up which which he says was the
G.I. Joe U.S.S. Flagg vehicle. When asked if people can still get that, Cocks responded by saying they don't offer it currently but suggested people should write in and let them know if they would buy one because he wants to convince Hasbro designers that they should make a new one.
