February 11, 2012
Shown below are images from the Hasbro showroom at the New York Toy Fair for their G.I.Joe Retaliation line. We will also be uploading some new PR images of wave 5 shortly which was not on hand at the showroom, so stay tuned. Also here is a recap of information from the Hasbro panel for G.I.Joe.

- Movie line hits shelves in early June. The movie opens June 29 (Official May 30). There will be 50 figures including those with vehicles and 4 additional comic con exclusives including those sold with vehicles. 9 vehicles + 1 additional Comic Con exclusive.

- Wave 1 was on shelf June. Roadblock, Snake-Eyes, Cobra Commander, Duke, Storm Shadow, Zartan, GIJoe Trooper, Cobra Trooper, Red Ninja

- Wave 2 in July with movie accurate sculpts. Battle-Kata Roadblock, Firefly with no mask and scar and Flint with Beret. Firefly actually will have 2 different heads and a sled. Ninja Duel Snake-Eyes and Storm Shadow inspired by 1988 Camouflage version. These two will have ankle articulation.

- Wave 3 August will have Joe Colton (Bruce Willis) and Lady Jaye. also have Alley Viper, Cobra Ninja and Dragon Ninja.

- Wave 4 in September, Kim Arashikage (Jinx in Yellow) and Blind Master. They can't call the figure Jinx.

- Wave 5 in October will have Crimson Guard and Night Viper. Crimson Guard will have decals you can use to change rank and affiliation. Looks pretty sweet.

- Ninja Showdown Sets - Wave 2 will have Joe Night Ops with Agent Mouse, Night Ops Snake-Ees and Sgt Airborne (looks like Kwin with a mask) and Cobra Invasion Team with Fire Fly with mask, Storm Shadow and Cobra Invasion Trooper.

- Vehicles - Ninja Speed Cycle with Snake-Eyes with launching front wheel. Brovo has the Cobra Fangboat and Ninja Commando 4x4 with Snake-Eyes

- Tread Ripper with Clutch is part of Bravo wave 2. The Delta wave 1 will include Ghost Hawk II with zipline function and HISS Tank which is movie accurate
apparently. It comes with Cobra Commander. There is a lifesize version they hope to have on display at Joecon.

- 10" Ninja Commandos - Ninja Commando Roadblock and Snake-Eyes out in June. Each one has a vest that has everything they need to combat evil. They have a fluid style of interchangeable weapons.
te sound
- Role-Play items like Battle-Kata and Blade of Justice. Ninja Chucks will be out in August and Ninja Commando Blaster and Snake-Eye Nunja Gear which will be out in June. Look for Snake-Eyes, Storm Shadow and a generic Joe mask.

- SDCC Kim Arashikage (Jinx) red and white versions as well as the GIJoe/Transformers crossover will be Shockwave HISS which will come with a Destro and B.A.T figure. The B.A.T. will be in a Constructicon deco.

most are a pass for me. hasbro could of took joe to the next level but dropped the ball agin. oh well ill be saving alot of cash agin off the movie line. some do look good but most are a pass for me. i agree the packaging sucks big time. way to go hasbro you could of had a hit on your hands but nope you went cheap on us.

I don't think they went cheap.....I think they went safe..........ROC was a huge hit to the GI Joe brands "confidence" when it came to retailers. I mean there are still ROC figures stinkin up Marshalls/TJ Maxx's almost 3 years later.....that is also the reason GI Joe all but disappeared from toy aisles after. They went all in when it came to ROC and lost big time. They figure with a smaller offering they can always go bigger.......but right off the bat they need a small concentrated line. I think its fine......plus with Avengers, Spider-Man, and Batman movies coming out all around the same time the space in the toy aisles for lines that "didn't do too well the last time a movie came out" is probably small.

I agree. I think one of the problems with ROC is that they gave us WAAAAY too much up front. Far too many characters, (Many of them not in the movie) and WAY too much bulk. Even if the toys were a hot seller, there was no way they could've sold all of those toys. It was just too much. Going smaller is probably the right route here.

Makes sense there are less vehicles this time around as well. I think those sold the worst. (Even though a few of my favorite vehicles come from this line) Also makes sense that that went so cheap on the vehicle figures. Why put so much effort to figures for vehicles that chances are people aren't going to buy? :/

What's this though? A cyberman? Is GI Joe gonna fight with Dr. Who now? ;p

Who else can imagine the insane "Buy It Now" prices the scalpers dream up when they part out the Decpeticon accessories from the SDCC exclusive HISS?

(link)

"GI Joe scale Soundwave" Buy It Now $60.00!

"GI Joe scale Decepticon caset" Buy It Now $30.00! (each)

"GI Joe scale Megatron gun" Buy It Now $80.00!

Yeah, the packaging is very lame.Kind of reminds me of the Action Man line from the mid 90s.

CaptainTriumph - 2012-02-14 @ 11:10 am

I don't usually buy movie figures but I might want some of these this time around.

yojoebro82 - 2012-02-13 @ 9:51 pm

I think this line will bring in more buyers than ROC for three reason: 1 and 2 The Rock and Bruce Willis. People who used to grow up with GI Joe but who may not have necessarily stuck with it to the degree we fanboys have, will see two of the biggest action stars on screen today in GI Joe form and say, "Whoah! That is cool." And they'll buy them. While they're at it, they will see: 3. a Cobra Commander who actually LOOKS like Cobra Commander, remember the Chris Lata-voiced character from back in the day, and buy him too.

Or maybe I'm wrong.

Most of the figures are still pretty nice, even those without ankle articulation (and minus those terrible vehicle drivers). Nice to see Joe Colton and Yellow Jinx, as well as the Night Viper and Crimson Guard. I do have to say that I'm already sick of ninjas just looking at this stuff. Not sure if the Dragon Ninja and Cyber Ninja are in the movie, but both seem rather pointless if they aren't. And yes, the packaging is terrible.

CLAM - 2012-02-13 @ 7:46 am

everything looks pretty awesome to me. I think I will be getting the majority of these figures... whereas for ROC, I only got 3 or 4.

But it did seem to me like ROC had a hell of alot more figures and vehicles released for it.

Also, while I like most of these figures, it seems like there is only Duke, Roadblock, Flint, Cobra Commander, and then 30 different Ninjas!

oh, and the packaging sucks.
