BigBadWorkshop and Fresh Monkey Fiction present Operation: Monster Force!

The Forgotten King has returned. Once a sorcerer pharaoh whose reign was so vile his name was erased from Egyptian history, the Forgotten King pursues a sinister agenda, gathering mystical artifacts from around the world for some unknown purpose. Every soldier sent to stop him is killed and re-animated into an undead zombie that is under the Forgotten King's command.

Worried the Forgotten King’s reign of terror will not be able to be stopped, the military enlists the help of monster hunter Declan Van Helsing. Seeing no other option, Declan goes against the Van Helsing family’s wishes and opens Tomb 13, freeing the world's most powerful vampire…Count Dracula. His rationale - it may take a monster to bring down a monster.

And so, Operation: Monster Force is formed! Under Dracula’s direction, a unique vampire strike unit is created called “Delta Red,” whose undead condition makes them immune to the Forgotten King’s powers.

It’s a race against time for Dracula and Van Helsing to discover the Forgotten King’s hidden lair and destroy him before his mysterious plan reaches completion.

Declan Van Helsing

Declan Van Helsing had a lot to live up to. The Van Helsings were known in the shadow world for having vanquished the most dangerous vampires in the world. But for Declan, those were only stories.

Trained as a vampire hunter, he has never had to battle anything worse than the occasional newblood in a back alley. He rose through the army rangers, seeing combat in numerous conflicts in clandestine warzones, and when his tour was over, he was recruited by the C.I.A. It was while he was operating out of Egypt that the troubles began. He saw with his own eyes the destruction of the undead soldiers of the Forgotten King.

When the Apophis Legion began appearing in other parts of the world, collecting strange relics by cover of night, Washington became desperate. It was Declan who suggested unlocking one particular vault of the Van Helsing Tomb, and releasing a monster to fight a monster. With the full support of Washington, but against the vehement opposition of his family, Declan is now responsible for handling the one who slept in Vault 13…Dracula.

So we got "Norman Osborn"/"Dr. Quest", "Mr. Negative Henchman" and "Ogun" for Logan to fight with. That's pretty neat that this line gives us these characters in sneaky way.

You don't have your wave one figures yet? I do (and no, it's not just because I'm the lead mod on here). Did you only preorder recently or just preorder Declan Van Helsing and/or Delta Red Nocturnal Ops? Almost all the figures from Season 01 are currently in stock at BBTS. I believe the only reason a couple aren't is that a few figures were more popular than others, and they're waiting on more stock for orders placed later than others.

Cthulu guy looks really neat, I do love that, I love it enough I might just have to buy it, not going to collect this line but a random Cthulu dude is a fun figure to have, I wish he wasn't wearing a uniform though and was like a full on cthulu dude, I wouldn't even question buying it if that was the case.

I agree- because they've done the "creature" head- on- suited body enough now. They need a beast/creature torso and arms, at least (and no I'm not forgetting the Kiloworg; those are a whole different scale). Overall they've done a good job, sizing up to 6+" scale from their 4" and the line looks vibrant and engaging.

I really want to like what Fresh Monkey Fiction is doing with Operation: Monster Force, but man, they have got to chill with the early wave announcements. It feels like every time I turn around, theyre hyping up another future wave when we havent even gotten the figures from Wave One yet! If Im remembering right, theyhad already announced two more waves before we saw anything physical from the first. Thats just crazy. How are we supposed to stay excited when were waiting forever for the figures theyve already sold us?

And honestly, this isnt just a Fresh Monkey Fiction problem. Four Horsemen Studios does the same thing with their Mythic Legions and Cosmic Legions lines. They show off new waves so far in advance that by the time you can actually buy them, the excitements either gone or youve moved on. Its exhausting. These companies need to find a better way to pace themselves because right now, it just feels like theyre trying to juggle too much at once.

One of the biggest issues is their over-reliance on CG renders. Dont get me wrong, renders are fine for initial teasers, but they only go so far. Renders dont show the final productthe paint could be off, the sculpt could lose detail, and things just look different when theyre actually made. If youre going to announce a new wave, at least have some painted masters or grayscale sculpts ready to show. That gives us something tangible to get excited about and reassures collectors that the figures are actually happening.

In my opinion, companies like Fresh Monkey Fiction need to wait to announce new waves until the current wave is further alongpreferably when physical prototypes are ready. It would make such a huge difference. Collectors would feel more confident in what theyre buying, the wait wouldnt feel as endless, and the hype would stay alive.

I want lines like Operation: Monster Force to succeed because theyre doing some really creative stuff, but this constant cycle of early announcements and long waits is just draining. Slow down, deliver what youve already promised, and then we can get excited about whats next. Right now, its just too much, too soon.

Yeah I'm wondering how they got away with that too! That is straight up Dr. Benton Quest!?
