I’ve heard a lot of good things about Boss Fight Studio and their line of 4” Vitruvian H.A.C.K.S. figures, but I have never owned any until now. Today, I am reviewing the new Kokomo Toys exclusive Atelis Warrior Altered Amazon figure, and I have to say that everything I have heard about the line seems to be true.
The figure comes packaged in a white mailer box which features some nice artwork of the character on the front. At the top is the Vitruvian H.A.C.K.S. logo. H.A.C.K.S. stands for Highly-Articulated-Character-Kit-System. At the bottom is the Kokomo Toys logo and name of the character. On the side of the packaging is information about those involved with making the figure, and a very detailed backstory for the character is on the back. The bio was written by Paddy Lennon.
Upon opening the mailer box, the figure is packed securely in a blister to prevent damage in transit. The first thing to notice once the figure is removed from its packaging is that it has a ton of accessories.
First, a figure stand made with thin black plastic to keep the figure standing without taking up a lot of space on your shelf. The stand has two pegs and features the Boss Fight Studio logo on it.
Two pairs of grip hands are included. The only difference between the hands is that one of the right hands has a hinge joint on top of the wrist. The other three hands have the hinge joint on the side.
The figure features two different head sculpts, both of which are very nicely detailed, especially for a figure in this scale. One head has the mouth closed, and the second has the mouth open. The heads feature red eyes and green skin with lighter green striping on it. What really catches your eye with these sculpts is the scales sculpted on the skin. The second head with the open mouth has additional sculpting for the mouth with fangs clearly visible and nice detailing in the mouth with the tongue.
The heads attach to the body with a double-ball joint system. If the peg comes out, just make sure the end with the bigger ball fits into the head and the smaller ball fits into the neck of the figure.
Two different helmets fit well on either head sculpt. One helmet is a gladiator type helmet, and the other is a very cool looking snake-like helmet with a spine that goes down the back of the figure.
For weapons, you get two swords made with hard plastic with sharp points at the tips. You also get two snake-handled whips, a snake dagger and a shield. The dagger and whips have very cool looking snake heads on the handles, and the shield has a nicely sculpted face of Medusa on the front.
The figure has a loop on the back of its belt to store either one of the swords or the dagger. You can also put one of the swords and the shield on the back of the figure using the shoulder harness although I am not sure it technically was made to do that.
The figure itself stands just over 4” tall, and I really love the sculpting detail on the armor pieces especially with the right shoulder pad. All the armor pieces are painted with a gold metallic paint that matches perfectly to the weapons. Like with the head sculpts, the figure’s skin is covered in a dark green paint with lighter green striping throughout. Some nice looking sandals are on the feet.
One thing that is fairly unique about a figure this size is that most of the armor pieces including the breast plate and the skirt piece made with vinyl are removable.
The articulation on this figure also is very nice. Even though the figure encompasses a female buck with thin joints, they are very sturdy. You get a wide range of moment with the head that can look both up and down.
The arms are single-hinged, but you still get good bending with them. The knees are double-jointed, and the figure has ankle-pivot.
Even if you’re not really into Greek mythology which is what these figures are based on, I think this figure also fits in nicely with other lines of similar scale like G.I.Joe. This character is deemed an army builder, and it’s really cool they have given you so many accessories. If you buy more than one figure, you can mix and match them so your army doesn’t look exactly the same.
Like I said at the beginning of the review I’ve never owned a Boss Fight Figure, but I am thoroughly impressed with this one. It’s well-made with a lot of accessories that give you a lot of options for posing.
