Numerous Movie Studios Skipping The San Diego Comic-Con 2019

by Outsiders
June 27, 2019
Are movie studios starting to shy away from the San Diego Comic-Con? The question comes to mind as Deadline is reporting that movie studios such as Sony, Universal, Warner Bros. DC film studio and Lionsgate will not be attending the convention.

Studios currently set to be attending are Disney/Marvel, Paramount and New Line.

No reason for Universal, Warner Bros DC film studio or Lionsgate to not be attending but Sony does have their hands full with Spider-Man: Far From opening next week and Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood upcoming on July 26th. Their promo teams have events set up for the whole year with Zombieland 2: Double Tap (October 18th), Charlie’s Angels (November 15th), The Grudge (Janaury 3rd), the comic-book feature adaptation Bloodshot starring Vin Diesel (February 21st), Blumhouse’s Fantasy Island (February 28th) and, farther out, Marvel’s Morbius (July 31st, 2020).

Half of the stuff being announced at SDCC is released a day or two before as press announcement generally saying. I am actually glad that for once in years it will focus on C of sdCc.

Studios realize that showing up at SDCC wont change the outcome of their movie because they are either going to see it or not from when a trailer just comes out

I agree about the toys and collectibles. I think the Studios finally learned the hard way from dumping tons of cash on SDCC and their movies still bombed.

I don't care. Only reason I like SDCC is for the toys if I'm being honest. Movie studios being there or not means jack to me.

Lately, yeah I feel the same way, with so many website reporting the news I don't really care much for the entertainment side of SDCC anymore.

WB has so many movies coming out and you would think they would try to market them a little.

Wow. Damn. It's kinda weird that sony won't even have Tarantino and friends there to promote Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. The Hateful Eight panel was a highlight in 2015.
