Netflix has released a new teaser for the fourth and final season of their anime series Castlevania. Yes, you read correctly...

Deadline has confirmed with Netflix that the series will premiere on May 13th and will be 10-episodes, but will be coming to an end. Netflix is looking to eye a new series set in the same Castlevania universe with an entirely new cast of characters.

The series was created by author and prolific comic book writer Warren Ellis, who served as writer and executive producer. Ellis finished the scripts for Season 4 but was faced with sexual misconduct allegations which he firmly denied. He has had no further involvement in Castlevania and will not include him in the new series.

Castlevania is a dark medieval fantasy that follows Trevor (Richard Armitage), the last surviving member of the disgraced Belmont clan, who is trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hand of Vlad Dracula Tepes (Graham McTavish). But Trevor no longer is alone, and now he and his misfit comrades race to find a way to save humanity from extinction at the hands of the grief-maddened Dracula and his sinister vampire war council.

The voice cast also includes James Callis, Emily Swallow, Matt Frewer, Tony Amendola and Alejandra Reynoso. Sam Deats is Castlevania‘s director. Ellis executive produced along with Kevin Kolde, Fred Seibert and Adi Shankar.

The first thing I thought watching Vampire Hunter D was that it felt very much like Castlevania. To this day, it'sthe only piece of Japanese animation that I still go back and watch. As for the series, to me it started very strong and it started going downhill after that, even keeping in mind it was an adaptation there were lot of things with the story and writing that I just couldn't get into.

They are both pretty amazing films. Some of the best anime movies out there. I absolutely love Bloodlusts artstyle. I definitely feel you on the latter seasons being alittle harder to get into. It was kind of going off course a bit but it was far from terrible. I hope this last season sends it off well at least.

I feel like it became more entertaining when you turned off the idea that it was ever going to follow the games' storylines. Pretty much nothing based off video games ever seems to follow the exact storylines from their original source material. Nothing in the veins of the Mila Resident Evil movies where they just made up their own garbage with a few cosplayers as main characters, but this was far from that territory. But really youd be better off watching Vampire Hunter D /Bloodlust as a better Castlevania adaptation XD.

This series fell out of grace for me with each new season: the first season was great, albeit with some omissions regarding the story of the original game; the second was good but this is where the differences with the game began to be more evident and marked despite that I still enjoyed it; third season was here when everything went to hell: a plot that no longer has anything to do with video games, original characters that contributed little to nothing to the plot (Carmilla's girlfriends) and Hector's degradation, which I think it was just awful. Finally, why the heck left Grant Danasty out series?.

Glad that It's ending, maybe the new one would be a good adaptation of the Castlevania video games but I'm not very optimistic.

Sucks, I really enjoyed this show but they did start going alittle crazy last season. I do enjoy that they will be able to end it without being a cliffhanger. I hate when shows start up and get cancelled before ever finishing what they started. And to have a spin off is cool since it will be very much like this show just with different characters.. and there are alot in this series. Would be awesome if they introduce Simon but there are plenty of Belmonts to choose from as well as other non whip users as well. Will be curious to see where this goes. Simon seems like the given character choice moving forward but Castlevania has spanned so many areas.

. . . Weeelll, I hope they at LEAST bring the four principle plot threads to a satisfying conclusion. Gonna be tight in only 10 episodes. *sigh*

As for a new show with new characters in the same universe . . . I mean, they've got centuries of follow-up continuity to work with. We can only hope they stick to the basic story laid out. Simon next, maybe??
