I think it's because people are getting bored with seeing the same thing of Scorpion Vs Sub-Zero, Sonya Vs Kano and Liu Kang being the main tournament winner. By now, Liu Kang is a Fire God, so who knows how the second movie will turn out. The first movie was OK, but it dealt too much with Cole's family and all that goody-goody, lovey-dovey, snore-fest.

The production for Mortal Kombat 2 received a fatality today after the country of Australia's production union issued guidance saying a limited number of SAG-affiliated productions will have to stop. This has caused the cast and crew to stand down as production on the sequel from New Line Cinema and Warner Bros Pictures has been taking place on the Gold Coast, Queensland.

Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon released a new image of himself and Karl Urban, who is playing Johnny Cage in the sequel. Urban is not in costume, but you can see his hair has been dyed for the role.

New Line has finally rounded out their cast for Mortal Kombat 2, with Martyn Ford as the Outworld emperor Shao Kahn, Desmond Chiam as Edenian King Jerrod, Ana Thu Nguyen as Queen Sindel, and Damon Herriman as the Netherrealm demon Quan Chi.
The sequel follows the 2021 Mortal Kombat, based on the blockbuster video game franchise created by Ed Boon and John Tobias. The feature was released simultaneously in theaters and on the platform now known as Max in April 2021, and opened at number one at the box office, made $84 million worldwide theatrically, and become one of the most-watched titles in Maxs history.
Details of the sequel are being kept quiet but Lewis Tan, who played MMA fighter Cole Young in the original will be returning. In addition, returning cast includes Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Josh Lawson as Kano, Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Joe Taslim as Bi-Han and Sub-Zero, Hiroyuki Sanada as Hanzo Hasashi and Scorpion, and Max Huang as Kung Lao. Newcomers also include Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, and Adeline Rudolph as Kitana.
Director Simon McQuoid returns to helm the project from a script by Jeremy Slater. Producers are Atomic Monsters James Wan and Michael Clear, Broken Road Productions Todd Garner, McQuoid, and E. Bennett Walsh.
