Liam Hemsworth To Replace Henry Cavill In 'The Witcher' Season Four

Netflix has announced that The Witcher has been renewed for a fourth season, except we won't be seeing Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia.

After Season three, Cavill has decided to step down from the role and will be replaced by Liam Hemsworth.

The third season of the series will return in the summer 2023. A four-part prequel series, The Witcher: Blood Origin launches December 25th, 2022. The Witcher is a story of the intertwined destinies of three individuals in the vast world of The Continent, where humans, elves, witchers, gnomes, and monsters battle to survive and thrive, and where good and evil is not easily identified.

Sources have informed Deadline that Cavill only signed a short-term deal and felt it was time to move on after three seasons. The show is also filmed overseas and has a demanding production schedule.

Lauren Schmidt Hissrich is showrunner and executive producer. Tomek Baginski, Jason F. Brown, Sean Daniel, Mike Ostrowski, Steve Gaub and Jarosław Sawko also executive produce.

Cavill said, “My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for season 4. In my stead, the fantastic Mr Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf. As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam’s take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men. Liam, good sir, this character has such a wonderful depth to him, enjoy diving in and seeing what you can find.”

Hemsworth added, “As a Witcher fan I’m over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia. Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I’m honoured that he’s handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s blades for the next chapter of his adventure. Henry, I’ve been a fan of yours for years and was inspired by what you brought to this beloved character. I may have some big boots to fill, but I’m truly excited to be stepping into The Witcher world.”

Just glad to see Cavill back in the Super tights and as a fan of Liam he really needs the work.

Playing Superman pays more / is less work.

Any idea when the next movie is due to drop?

Never understood why some actors sign up for a series, then leave after a season or two. What's wrong with a weekly paycheque?

I think it's because he only signed a short-term deal and 3 seasons is short. Filming is also done overseas, so he's away from home for months and it has a demanding production schedule.

I think it's also because of it being on Netflix and everyone knows Netflix cancels their shows after 4 to 5 seasons, so maybe he wanted to jump-ship before the series was canceled.

Well my guess would be how most companies only care about the money they can make off an IP, not about the history and story etc of the character and world. Hollywood is doing it with everything. Games, comics, tv shows, movies etc.

Just what I heard. There is a quote by Demayo, whoever that is, i have never seen the show. But he says they hate the books and games. They keep changing things from the books and games.

I prolly shouldnt speak since I havent watched the show and dont really know much about it.

Why would they hate the books and games since the TV series is based on the books and games?
