Paramount+ Cancels 'Star Trek: Prodigy'; Series Will Be Shopped Elsewhere

Paramount+ is cleaning house by canceling and ditching a slew of series including Star Trek: Prodigy. Among the reasoning for the cancellations is that the platform has become the latest media company to take a content write-down and is in the process of merging with Showtime, which will happen later this month.

Even though it was announced a second season, Star Trek: Prodigy will not be going forth with this season, but the title will be shopped to rival broadcasters and streamers.

Netflix has revealed that all 20 episodes of Star Trek: Prodigy Season 1 will be released on Christmas Day, December 25, 2023. The announcement was made during Netflix's annual Geeked Week event.

Last month, Netflix secured the rights to the animated series for the U.S. and most international territories through a deal with CBS Studios. This decision was made after Paramount+ announced in June that it would be removing several originals, including Star Trek: Prodigy, from its platform as part of a cost-cutting measure. Additionally, Paramount+ decided not to move forward with the previously planned second season of the show. However, fans can now look forward to the second season premiering on Netflix in 2024.

Star Trek: Prodigy is coming to Netflix!

Season 1 of the animated series launches onto Netflix later this year while a brand new Season 2 is slated to debut in 2024.

Prodigy should have been on Nickelodeon as originally intended. I mean, I guess it technically was, but it should have stayed there instead of airing something like the first ten episodes on both Nick and Paramount+ and the entire rest of the season on Paramount+.
