During Geeked Week on Friday, the streaming platform made an official announcement regarding the upcoming anime, The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep. This highly anticipated film is set to be released on Netflix in late 2024.
In Sirens of the Deep, viewers will follow the adventures of Geralt of Rivia, a mutated monster hunter. Geralt is hired to investigate a series of attacks in a seaside village but soon finds himself entangled in a long-standing conflict between humans and merpeople. To prevent an all-out war between the two kingdoms, Geralt must rely on both old and new allies to unravel the mystery.
Doug Cockle, the iconic voice of Geralt in the Witcher video games, will be returning to lend his voice to the character once again. Joey Batey and Anya Chalotra, who portrayed Jaskier and Yennefer in the live-action series, will also be reprising their roles as voice actors. Additionally, Christina Wren will be joining the cast to voice the character Essi Daven.
Sirens of the Deep is based on Andrzej Sapkowski's short story, A Little Sacrifice, which was not included in the first season of the live-action show. The animation for the film is being handled by Studio MIR, known for their work on The Legend of Korra and Netflix's Voltron: Legendary Defender.
This marks the second anime movie in The Witcher franchise, following the success of The Witcher: Nightmare of The Wolf, which premiered in 2021. Nightmare of The Wolf focused on the origin story of Geralt's mentor, Vesemir.
The screenplay for Sirens of the Deep is written by Mike Ostrowski and Rae Benjamin, with Mike Ostrowski, Tomek Bagiński, and Jarosław Sawko (Platige), Jason F Brown, and Sean Daniel (Hivemind) serving as executive producers. The film is directed by Kang Hei Chul.
Great that Doug Cockle is back. Kinda weird that its based on Cavill though. Still, I liked the other animated Witcher movie so I'm still interested in watching this.
