The 'Arkham Asylum TV Series' Project Has Been Canceled At MAX

by Outsiders
July 7, 2024
Variety has announced that the Arkham Asylum TV series, which was in development at Max, has been canceled. Antonio Campos was set to write and run the show, which was initially intended to be part of the same universe as Matt Reeves' "The Batman." However, an insider revealed that Campos' iteration will not move forward. There is a chance, however, that a different project centered around the notorious Gotham City asylum may be created at a later date.

Terrence Winter was initially set to write and serve as an executive producer, however, he departed from the project in November 2020 citing creative disparities. Subsequently, Joe Barton was enlisted to take over the writing duties, but Warner Bros. ultimately decided to part ways with Barton too.

Better to not go forward with a program that would likely fail before it even got out of the gate. Another petty pipedream tugging on the legacy of the one true Batman. Instead of wasting time and money on these "Batman-ish" failures, either do an actual live action BATMAN show or just stick to the movies. I think this is a good decision to cancel.
