Variety has announced that "Dead Boy Detectives" has been officially canceled by Netflix, marking the end of the series after its sole season, which premiered on April 25.
The series experienced several transitions after receiving a pilot order from Max in 2021, followed by a series order in 2022 before ultimately being acquired by Netflix in 2023. At that time, it was reported that the acquisition occurred because the show, which features characters developed for DC by Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner, was not aligned with the new vision for Max-DC content led by James Gunn and Peter Safran.
At Netflix, the Dead Boy Detectives are integrated into the "Sandman" universe, having initial appearances in "The Sandman" comic seriescurrently, Netflix broadcasts "The Sandman" television series, with a second season in development.
