Well maybe they will decide to start the story at the beginning. Seems like that would be a good place. Either way Im not placing any high hopes into this project.
Seems like this is moving away froma Prime? At least based on the reports from this morning.
The God of War series, inspired by the popular ancient mythology-themed video game from PlayStation, is set to restart its development after nearly two years of work. According to Deadline, showrunner and executive producer Rafe Judkins, and executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus, have departed from the project after finalizing several scripts for the first season.
The studios are said to be pursuing a fresh creative direction and intend to assemble an entirely new writers' room for the series, which continues to be a significant asset for Prime. Cory Barlog and Yumi Yang from Santa Monica Studio will continue to serve as executive producers for God of War, alongside Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, Yumi Land, and Roy Lee from Vertigo.
Uuuughhh, kill me now. Prime is primed to take another beloved property destroy it through alternate media. Hopefully the game creators maintain some sort of control over the creative process as to not let if succumb to the typical failings of other Prime shows.
You never know, I'm sure the new show based on the Last of Us will be a smash.
These games (GoW, Uncharted, Last of US) are great BECAUSE they're video games. When you take the interactive element out. They become pretty generic movie ideas.

It says above that they are starting with the Norse story.

I agree. Those old games are dated and prime material for retelling. Unfortunately that isnt going to happen

Prime Video today announced that it has ordered God of War to series. Co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon Studios in association with PlayStation Productions, the live-action series is based on the critically acclaimed PlayStation video game by the same name, created by Santa Monica Studio. God of War will premiere on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.
The series follows Kratos, the God of War, who, after exiling himself from his blood-soaked past in ancient Greece, hangs up his weapons forever in the Norse realm of Midgard. When his beloved wife dies, Kratos sets off on a dangerous journey with his estranged son to spread her ashes from the highest peak - his wife's final wish. Kratos soon realizes the journey is an epic quest in disguise, one which will test the bonds between father and son, and force Kratos to battle new Gods and monsters for the fate of the world.
"The God of War is a compelling, character-driven franchise that we believe will captivate our global customers as much with its expansive and immersive worlds as its rich storytelling," said Vernon Sanders, head of global television at Amazon Studios.
