Idris Elba is poised to join the cast of Masters of the Universe, where he will portray the character Duncan, also known as Man-At-Arms. He will share the screen with Alison Brie, who will take on the role of Evil-Lyn, Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man, and Camila Mendes as Teela.

The character description for Duncan is provided by Deadline as a good guy and for centuries has been the weapons master and combat instructor to the royal family, and is also called Man-At-Arms. He was trained by Dekker and is a veteran of the Great Unrest, and he was tasked by King Randor to create the elite strike force, which he named The Masters of the Universe. Man-At-Arms and his adopted daughter Teela often scout the borders of Eternia for signs of lurking evil.

The film directed by Travis Knight for Amazon MGM is scripted by Chris Butler. It is produced by Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Robbie Brenner, and Steve Tisch. This project is a co-production between Escape Artists and Mattel.

Elba is recognized for his role as Heimdall in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, appearing in six films that commenced with Thor (2011). Additionally, he portrayed Bloodsport in the DC Extended Universe in The Suicide Squad (2021).

I think this is a great casting, why not? Idris is really good actor who can pull of many roles, let's see how this turns out, I think nobody needs to make judgements about this movie and it's castings currently, how about you wait and see how it all goes in the end.

also PS to those making comments in regards to race, and "race swapping" and putting this convo on a negative course, youll be warned not to, or this thread will close.

Idris is good in pretty much everything given to him. I hope he brings in some of his Bloodsport vibes to Man at Arms and gets the opportunity to have some cool action scenes. I'll be grabbing his fig for sure

The thread's been cleaned up. Let's keep it that way. Some of y'all are new and some of y'all are not and should probably know better, but I will reiterate something I've said before, and something that Scareglow was talking about: if you want to complain about "race swapping" and the casting of a black actor to play a fictional character from another planet, this is not the social media platform to do it. As my colleague stated, any more whining about Idris Elba's/Duncan's race (or other characters, either) will result in this thread being closed. Posters who get threads closed typically get penalized. Posters who whine about not being able to see their objectionable posts anymore typically get penalized, too. We really don't want to hand out warnings and penalties or lock threads, so let's avoid that.

Indeed!Looks like this should go straight to DVD as well ?

I like Idris, I'm sure he'll be fine in the role. Fantasy casting, I would have gone for Douglas Henshaw of Shetland fame for Man-At-Arms, though. When I think of a live action version, I can see Man-At-Arms and Fisto with Scottish brogues.

More disappointed Sacha Baron Cohen as Skeletor AKA Randor's brother is going to scenery chew to the point of unwatchability, as he always does.

While I don't want another MOTU movie attempt to die on the vine, the script leaks of Adam trapped on earth only to discover his destiny amidst high school hijinks are not encouraging.

If I can channel Warner Herzog, Hollywood is full of cowards. Star Wars is the most successful and influential film in history, but no one/studio has the courage anymore to start a story with "A long time ago, in a galaxy far away." It has to be set on earth, start on earth, star teenagers instead of adults who kids can relate to/want to emulate. Halfway through, the Lego Movie turned out to be about hoary daddy issues, like every other Hollywood movie and TV show. There is literally no imagination.

So long as he grows out the mustache, I'm happy with this casting

Idris as Duncan is the first casting that I've actually liked for this! I don't dislike Camila or Alison as actresses but I just can't visualize either of them in these particular roles. I loved Camila as Veronica on Riverdale so maybe I've just got her too typecast into one type of role in my mind.
