It's Wednesday, and you know what that means... ToyFarce review!

This week, we're having a look at the Batman - 1989 Edition from the Mezco One:12 Collective line. No, you are not dreaming. Do not attempt to adjust your computer/cellphone screen. It's happening. The review of a figure 3 years in the making. We've heard the complaints, we've memed it to death, but now, it's time to give it its due: It's a godd$*n nice figure!

For reminders, the figure was announced and up for pre-order in January 2020, and supposed to be out by August to October of that same year... and it was delayed... and delayed... and delayed... No information or updates from Mezco during that whole time, which is why it became such a hot subject, and when the emails saying that they would start processing it started to pop up last month, people did not believe it at first. (There was even some weird custom that someone made and tried to pass as the real thing in early march... Those were strange times). But now, it is out!

The box is quite sober, as usual with Mezco one:12 collective. Logo on the front, promo pics we had already seen on the back. There are 2 levels of inserts inside.

First off, the body. When you open the figure, you'll notice it has a powder coating on it. It's to protect the rubber body. Mezco released a statement about it, and if you've handled a seamless body before, you'll know it. A quick wash, either using a microfiber cloth and a bit of water, or a rubber protectant product and TADAA, it will be gone. And D$*N, this thing looks amazing. It has an articulated metal armature under the rubber, which allows for great posing. I know some collectors have posted about being frustrated by the body not moving as it should, or having loose arms or legs, but I can only talk from my own experience, and mine turned up great.

Batman - 1989 Edition comes with 3 extra heads, on top of the one with moveable eyes, 6 extra hands, 2 capes (wired and not wired, more on that later), 4 batarangs, 1 batarang with wire, a grapnel launcher with hook, a grapnel launcher with hook and wire or a collapsed grapnel launcher, a gauntlet, a time bomb, a shuriken and a couple more tiny accessories I'm not sure about (things that come from his utility belt!), along with the usual big circular Mezco stand and post.

Pro tip: Dorklair posted a very helpful tip about the wired cape, which only has wires every 2 seams: You can mod it very easily by adding wires (either from twist ties that you get from other toys, or just getting actual metal wire from a hardware store) directly into the seams that do not have a wire. It's pretty easy, they slide right in, and it changes everything. It doesn't look like a broken umbrella anymore! Now, should we have to do that ourselves after waiting for 3 years for a $100 figure, that's another story...

Here is is, in all its glory. The figure feels nice in hand, moves quite easily, and the likeness is very good. The moveable eyes on the head sculpt work fine, even if it looks like he is permanently surprised (the eyes being bigger), and the 3 other head sculpts look awesome. That is one of the best 1989 Batman figure out there. Some could say it was even worth the wait, but I'll wait to say that once everybody has gotten theirs, as there are a lot of people still waiting for it, unfortunately...

I'm really hoping that everyone enjoys this one, because the wait was tight. The review is spot on, some really good tips are presented. Well done!

Mine arrived. It looks pretty good, but when I switched heads, the base magnet in the neck hole popped right out making it useless. I had to superglue it back in to keep the head(s) from falling off. Also the movable eye head had wonky eyes, they cross and don't follow the same track. It would have been cool, but it looks goofy now when used. Also, the cape did not 'snap in place' like the insert stated. It took some work to get it to stay on. Besides these issues and the stupid powder all over the body, it's still the best 89 batman figure out there at the moment. With the issues I encountered, I felt a bit burned by the price.
