Almost no one pays for Hasbro preorders in advance, so why put them out for products that 10+ or 12+ months away? It's just poor marketing, in my opinion, and breeds customer discontent and derision. And, as I said, notice McFarlane doesn't do it.
Not in advance, but if you reveal too far forward your release list, you can rely on your fanbase, they are going to reserve cash for Hasbro's figures, (or just stop eating for 30 days lol). It's a continuity, and people love predictable future moves. If you only reveal only the next few figures and there's no guarantee of when and how the story goes on, collectors might bite in another 1-2 lines and probably not looking back or just buying less items of yours in certain amount of time in the future.

There are many brands that could have made the list (Mythic Legions, Super7, NECA, Mattel, Lego, Mondo, Diamond Select, Playmates, Jada Toys, ...), but there would have been lots of redundancies with other companies having similar timeframes, so I had to edit it a bit, also to keep it short ^^

Who knows what's the world be like in the next 8-10 months, but people tend to stay in and not canceling for the most part. So it's basically for your wallet's loyalty which is a steady income especially when someone can only afford 1-2 lines at a time.

I don't understand why Hasbro announces its stuff so far in advance (my Ahsoka Thrawn took like a year to come out; what was the point of having me preorder it?).
Mythic Legions figures take forever. They are practically legendary for this. And it hasn't gotten any better as the line has gone on.

Fair point. Mythic Legions are in the 18-36 month range and we seem to have more Legions collectors here than Hot Toys collectors (or they're a more talkative contingent, at least)

Not entirely the same, but I was once on a Mezco waitlist for like 3 years. Completely forgot about it until I got an email one day... ?
