Hasbro is at it again with another new line of GI Joe figures. But will it last this time? Will the line last more than a year or even two years? Maybe this review can shed some light on that.
Up for review this time is Storm Shadow V1 from the 25th anniversary Cobra 5 pack.
Since the point of these figures are to be recreations of the originals, that will be a big point reviewing these figures.
Sculpting - This is one of the greatest GI Joe figures ever made. This is 100% true to the original design. And thank you, Hasbro, for the double knee joints. For once we can pose a ninja in a ninja pose (it’s about time). It’s Storm Shadow, and he looks badass! I couldn’t think of a better way to sculpt this figure; it was done very well.
Painting - The paint is good. A few black spots are on the figure because it is white and some paint probably splattered during the painting process. Nothing too big. Hopefully the white will not yellow over time, but it is molded in white. We’ll see what happens.
Accessories - Stormy came with his bow, sheath and swords; the perfect accessories for a ninja. And he looks good when he uses them, too.
Quality Control - The plastic on Storm Shadow seems a bit more rubbery than the plastic used on the single pack figures. It’s not too rubbery, but it is noticeable (at least on mine). Also when Hasbro poses their figures inside the packaging, they can come out with permanent bends on certain parts of the body. This can be fixed, but it doesn’t look good when the figure is standing there with bowed legs. Maybe I got a bad batch; I don’t know.
Cost - Several online stores carry the 5 packs from $26.99-$30.00 while TRU carries them for $30.00. I have not heard of Target or Wal-Mart getting these yet, so I do not know the price there. I assume Wal-Mart will be cheaper than TRU.
Final Comments - Way better than the original. It’s the original design, but humans can sculpt better now and it just looks amazing. It’s almost perfect (but nothing is perfect).
This Figure receives an outstanding 9.5 out of 10 for its fantastic sculpt and its uncanny ninja resemblance.
