BBTS Exclusive GI Joe Dreadnoks 7-Pack

G.I. Joe fans finally have something good to celebrate with the release of the new Dreadnoks 7-pack which is an exclusive release of BigBadToyStore.com.

The set comes with the remaining Dreadnok characters fans have been clamoring for a long time to finish out their 25th Anniversary collections. Such characters as Zandar, Dreadnok Thunder (Thrasher), Road Pig, Clyde “Gnaw” Hyde (Gnawgahyde), and Zanzibar as well as recent additions to the Dreadnok family Zanya who is the daughter of Zartan and Burnout who is a character that first appeared in the Spytroops line.

The figures come in the typical G.I. Joe boxed packaging, similar to previous 7-packs released with the window packaging that allows you to see each figure, only in the current 30th Anniversary line packaging color schemes and with the Deadnoks logo on the front. The back of the box has the file cards for each figure which you can cut out with a pair of scissors. On the bottom of the box are some small images of other G.I. Joe vehicles currently available for sale at retail.

Each figure stays pretty true to its original “A Real American Hero” counterpart and generally comes with nice accessories including figure stands.



Clyde “Gnaw” Hyde (Gnawgahyde) - Looks like he is fresh out of the Australian Outback with his removable hat, knife that can be held on the back of his vest and hinting rifle. The vest like the hat is removable. The head sculpt with its mutton chops and mischievous grin is very cool looking and fitting to the character. The paint aps are nice and the colors are fitting for a Dreadnok. Unlike the original figure which had bright yellow and blue colors, this figure has toned down blue pants and browns replacing the yellows used in the original figure. Articulation-wise, the figure contains all the nice joints one has come to expect from G.I. Joe: double-jointed knees, ab and ankle joints.



Dreadnok Thunder (Thrasher) - Remains very true to his original counterpart. The head sculpt reminds me of Andy Kaufman (the guy from the old Taxi TV series); so did the original. For accessories, the figure comes with his “Lacrosse Stick of Doom” and not much else but then neither did the original. Of course the original did have the Thunder Machine, which sadly is missing for the modern version.



Road Pig - Likely the coolest figure of the bunch. The character is more menacing looking and stands taller than any of the others which is how I remember the character to be. The figure seems to use the previously released Night Adder sculpt for a base giving it a bulkier look and nice articulation. He comes with his trademarked weapon of choice, the cinderblock hammer as well as a dented road sign that he can use as a shield. The wrist crossbow is missing but a crossbow rifle is included in the box set which works as a nice replacement. The shoulder pads the figure wears is removable and also holds the hammer on the back. Once you take the pads off, you will notice some nice tattoo work on the figure’s chest and arm. There is even a nice Dreadnok logo on the figure’s belt for an extra touch.



Zandar - Brother of Zartan and Zarana and one that many fans have been wanting for some time. They finally get it with this set, and it doesn’t disappoint. The figure has a great looking headsculpt and really nice paint apps. Who would have thought pink on a man would look so good? The figure features a working chest gun holster which is removable as is the pink scarf he wears around his neck. His shoulder pads are not removable which makes the figure look a little funny when not wearing the holster and scarf. Some nice tattoo art work on his face and chest gives added detail to the overall look of the figure. For accessories, he has a harpoon gun and a pistol as well as a crossbow (the one I gave to Road Pig). The only thing missing is the backpack arrow quiver the original had. If you managed to snag a SDCC exclusive Zarana this year, then you definitely will want to pick up this boxset for Zandar alone.



Zanya - At long last made in plastic form. The character first appeared about 10 years ago in the Devil’s Due comic book series and is the daughter of Dreadnok leader Zartan. The figure has nice details like lots of piercings on her face, the Dreadnok logo on her shirt and green lipstick. The figure comes only with a revolver and an AK-47 rifle for accessories. If I had to give the figure one fault, I would say she is a bit too tall. Still overall it’s a nice figure and rounds out the Zartan family quite nicely.



Zanzibar - By far the figure that is the least faithful to its original counterpart. Among other things, he is missing the classic ponytail and the eyepatch is on the wrong side. This modern version also has a grin that makes the figure almost seem like he has buckteeth. However what the figure lacks in the details, it makes up for somewhat with some pretty cool accessories. He comes with removable chest gear with a working gun holster, a working/removable dagger holster that fits on the back of the figure’s waist, a sword and two pistols, one that is very pirate looking. The figure also has a scar on his cheek and on his chest (probably because it uses the torso from a previously released Storm Shadow figure). Oh, he also has a working gun holster on his leg. I think if they had just managed to include a realistic ponytail on the head, the figure would have looked a lot more like the original. That being said, it still makes for a decent-looking Dreadnok and a nice addition to your collection.



Burnout - First appeared in the Spy Troops line back in 2003. The figure comes with a shotgun and a flame thrower, the same one that came with the Torch figure, only black. In fact, I gave my Torch figure the Black flame thrower, and it looks much better IMO than the original silver one did. Overall the figure is a nice update to the 2003 version; I always found the character to be a bit boring in general and tame-looking when it comes to Dreadnoks, but you can’t knock them for staying true to the original.

Another thing I really like about this set is the high-demand figures that fans have been wanting while the set remains pretty affordable. The set runs for about $49.99 which breaks down to just over $7 per figure.

Look for the set to be released in December to make a great holiday gift either for yourself or that collector friend or family member.
