Transformers Combiner Wars Deluxe Protectobot Groove Review & Images

Hasbro gives G1 fans the final piece needed to complete their Combiner Wars Defensor with this new Deluxe series Protectobot Groove figure. Originally released by Takara for their Unite Warriors line, this one does come off a little big in vehicle mode compared to the other Protectobots. Still I think Hasbro and Takara have done a pretty good job bringing us a modern version of Groove with this new Deluxe figure. The head sculpt in robot mode is nicely done with some very cool light-tubing effect going on in eyes.

You get a pair of blasters that also attach to the side of the figure in motorcycle mode similar to the original G1 toy. The translucent red pieces added to the top of the weapons make a nice addition for a siren effect. The standard Hasbro Combiner Wars foot/hand piece is included as well, and can double as a blaster in both robot and vehicle modes.

Articulation is nice with this figure. You get good movement with the head, arms and legs. In vehicle mode it also rolls well and has good balance so it doesn’t fall over easily. You do get a working kickstand, but you don’t really need it. You can also turn the front wheel for some steering action, though the handle bars don’t move with the wheel.

Groove will work with all your Combiner War figures, and can be used as a arm or leg, but most fans of the original G1 cartoon will be getting this one to use as the right leg for Defensor. The transformations for Groove are fairly simple and should only take you a few minutes.

Overall I really like Groove. As I mentioned before, his vehicle mode is a bit on the large side as far as scale goes with the other Combiner Wars Protectobots, but other than that I have know real complaints with it.
