Package Description
Originally summoned from the pits of Hell by the wizard Merlin to defend Camelot from the witch, Morgana Le Fey, Etrigan in recent years has become a monster possessed by the soul of his human host Jason Blood. He can transform between his Demon and Human forms only if a special incantation is read. Although adept at magic and sorcery, The Demon, Etrigan prefers to blast his opponents to cinders with his fire breath.

Appearance
Etrigan has a new and very tall sculpt. He’s a little taller than I thought he was in the comics, but it’s not something I’m worried about. The skin tones are all painted on this figure, giving a good inhuman but natural tone. In pictures Etrigan can look a little shiny and plastic looking, but that’s not how he looks in person. Because of the dark red and paint wash on the body, the lighter skin tones and blue around the head are the most visible features. There is also a lot more detail and texturing put into the legs and head than the body, resulting in an appearance that looks more detailed and visually interesting than other figures in this line.

The paint is well applied on this figure, there are no problems on mine at all. The head is the most detailed and impressive part of the figure. Everything from his teeth to the grain in his horns was sculpted in, which along with his height helps set him apart on display. The body is much plainer as with the generic body sculpts used on other figures in this series. However the combination of detailing and paint application on the figure still makes this figure look impressive.

Joint visibility is about the same as it is on other figures in DCUC figures. The only problem is the thighs, which are very thick and expose the plastic surface when rotated. The cape can also look a little shiny compared to the rest of the figure, but I like the deep blue color. Overall, the appearance of this figure is excellent and it represents the character superbly.

Articulation
Etrigan has articulation that was standard on DCSH figures. The cape doesn’t limit arm motion in any appreciable way. His balance is good despite the cape, probably because he is larger than Batman and Red Tornado from this series. His legs can’t go up quite as far as on smaller figures. The only real problem is that the head twists at an angle; Etrigan can’t simply turn his head to the side.

Poseability
Etrigan can do several good poses for a demon, but the possibilities for dynamic poses are limited. The open hands don’t do well in fighting poses, and it’s difficult to make an action figure look like it’s performing spells. But Etrigan looks great on display with other figures and by himself. He’s large, so he’s noticeable among smaller figures, but he’s about the same size as figures such as Mongul. Overall there’s nothing I really expected more out of this figure.

Final Judgment: 7
The detailing on the face is the best of this series. The figure as a whole captures the character perfectly as far as I’m concerned. The only thing I’d like changed would be the rotation of the head. Etrigan maintains a good range of motion despite being such a large figure too. Etrigan is an excellent action figure, and nothing less.
