Package Description
Artemis once belonged to the Bana-Mighdall, a splinter tribe of Amazon women who mastered the arts of war. Artemis helped lead her sisters ina civil war against the Amazons when the sorceress Circe transported the Bana-Mighdall to Themyscira. She now serves as Minister of Defense of New Temyscira, the Amazon's island nation rebuilt after its destruction in the battle to save Earth from the alien being known as Imperiex.
Appearance
Artemis has a new female sculpt that is larger than previous female sculpts like Harley or Batgirl. The proportions are generally good and match the comics well. The arms are still too skinny for my taste. Wonder Woman and Artemis are strong, and their arms should show it a bit more. As a result of the skinny arms the shoulder balls also stand out. The rest of the body looks good in terms of proportion and detail. Amongst the big name superheroes she holds her own in terms of how tough she looks.
The paint application is great on the body. The outlines of the stars are crisp with no problems. The red color is perfect, and gives me hope the upcoming Flash figure can also have a nice deep red color. The flesh paint can look a little sloppy in some places. The skin tone is a great improvement over figures like Green Lantern though. Lastly the face sculpt is superb, although a copy of Wonder Woman’s with new hair. The only real problem on Artemis is the joint cuts are quite noticeable on the flesh tones. DCUC is a line of super articulation though, and if I just wanted sculpt I would buy DC Direct. So the joint cuts are understandable. I do wish that the quiver was removable though, and that the arrows could be taken off the bow.
Articulation
Artemis’s articulation is fairly standard for DCUC females. The head still has a terrible range of motion despite there not being hair in the way. The hip design is slightly different, but has the same range of motion. Balance is better than other female figures because of the larger feet. The torso joint doesn’t go backward much at all.
Poseability
Flying poses are hard because of the limited head and torso range of motion. She has some great fighting poses but really needs the bow because the quiver isn’t removable. Her stance is a little wide though and could use some improvement. A greater range of motion in the head would also go a long way. However, Artemis looks fantastic with Wonder Woman and other figures. She looks fantastic on the display shelf, pure and simple.
Final Judgment: 7
Artemis stands out because of her great face sculpt and perfect choice of colors on the torso. For variety I wish she had a slightly different paint scheme or something, but she still looks good next to Wonder Woman. I prefer Wonder Woman just because the uniform is associated with her, but Artemis is still a really good buy.
