Package Description
While working security for the space museum in the 25th Century, Michael Jon Carter used Rip Hunter’s time machine to visit different eras, stealing security robot Skeets, a Legion of Super Heroes flight ring, and Brainiac 5’s force field belt. With these he traveled to the 20th Century to reinvent himself as a hero, Booster Gold. Currently, Booster patrols the time stream preventing villains from altering the past in order to change the present and future.
Appearance 8/10
Booster uses a larger DCUC male body sculpt. Stylistically I would have preferred the smaller body as used on Blue Beetle, but the figure still looks good. The larger body doesn’t have as natural an appearance however, because the metallic yellow emphasizes the large oversized muscles. The metallic colors really help him stand out from other figures on display though. However, I would have preferred a flat paint job if it could have resulted in a brighter yellow and a darker, more royal blue. The prototypes show a brighter yellow and darker blue that worked better, so this is probably a production issue. These complaints are somewhat nitpicking, but with the near perfect color and style choices on Blue Beetle it’s only natural to want perfection on Booster too. All that said, Booster still looks excellent for many of the same reasons as Blue Beetle.
Booster has an excellent face sculpt which matches how he is drawn extraordinarily well, even for this line. From the dimple to the slight smirk, the head sculpt is perfect and accentuated by the new clear goggles. Overall, Booster fits into the line well, but the yellow color at least should have been better executed. As is, it looks he should have gotten another coat or two of yellow to get the color right and consistent on the figure.
Articulation 10/10
The articulation points are standard for this line. The head looks up pretty far up and down. The torso has excellent range of motion. There’s nothing really to limit motion, so Booster can do everything he was designed to do.
Poseability 8/10
Booster doesn’t look as natural as he should in dynamic poses, and it’s because of the oversized upper body. It makes the movement seem not as fluid even though he can do all the same poses as a figure like Blue Beetle. He could also benefit highly from a flight stand. The fact that he can be posed with and without Skeets is also a bonus on this Booster. Overall, Booster can do all the poses he should be able to, but he’s not going to look as good as he could because of the large upper body and paint application.
Final Judgment: 26/30
Booster isn’t quite the must have that Blue Beetle is. He’s a good figure, but he just doesn’t quite match up to my vision of the character from the comic books. Nonetheless, he looks great next to Blue Beetle. Getting this figure depends on how much you want to complete Blue and Gold, and how much of a fan of Booster you are.
