G.I.Joe 25th Anniversary Wave 8 Figures

by Jay Cochran
January 24, 2008
Coming this summer is the next wave of single carded figures from GI Joe.

- Snake Eyes with Parka: Inspired by issue 2 of the Comic Book when Snake Eyes meets Quinn the Tracker.

- Roadblock City Assault: Based on the 86 version of Roadblock perfect for busting down city doors.

- Cobra Officer (Python Patrol): Inspired by the 1989 Python Patrol Officer

- Baroness V2: As seen in the GI Joe cartoon, this features Baroness with straight hair in her blue uniform.

- Flint Tiger Force: Inspired by Tiger Force Flint in 1988, fans will be happy to see his short sleeves and gloves.

- Baroness Cobra Commander with Stripe: Classic Cobra Commander from the cartoon with a MASS Device inspired crystal.

- Major Bludd: Finally, the long awaited return of Major Bludd, America’s most nefarious mercenary.

You can check out images for these at the GIJoe Club.

The thing about Bludd is this, if we DON'T complain and just accept him "as is", that's all we get. But we are almost certain to get a "classics" style version of Serpentor (and Zartan) so whose to say we won't see a "correct" Bludd also? I'm fairly certain that is the ONLY reason we are getting Tiger Force Flint, because of all the complaint about the gloves.

But, to me, that body just says "Zartan" too much. Like I said in an earlier post, I expect to see body reuse. I just think they were being a little lazy that they couldn't REALLY frankenjoe the parts.

Some figures just really DON'T work as other figures. MAYBE Scarlett's mold, for example, could be reused as Ninja Force Scarlett.

Others are really good like Gung Ho working VERY well as Torch, for example.

As for Major Bludd, looking at his picture at yojoe, he's VERY boring. So, given that, "spicing him up" a little isn't that bad an idea. Zartan's body is close, but I don't think it works (had it been split waist like RAH, yeah, it might).

One interesting aspect of the 25th line is how "bland" some of the figures are until you add the accessories (the body shared by Beach Head and Firefly is a good example). In Bludd's case, I think they could have easily used, say Duke's body with a "body armor" accessory over the top. I Duke's upper legs would work better too.

Exactly!! Parts reuse is fine when it makes sense and works............ Zartan does not work!!

After looking at some of the other figures coming out I put together a formula that could result in a much better Bludd.

Chest/Lower Torso: Like many have said...the Hiss Driver works best. Looking at my Vintage Bludd figure it's almost a perfect likness, only missing the small grooves in the chest.

Legs: Comic Pack Red Star. This is so close that it should be a crime to NOT use them. Only the pocket on the front of the right leg is out of place. The Boots are exactly the same.

Right arm: Existing one already being used.

Left Arm: Cobra Trooper. Some small ribbing is missing from the lower sleeve and glove, but it'll be closer then what they are using now.

Head: New.

Helmet/Gun/Backpack/Dogtags: Ones already being used.

That has the same amout of New/reused parts, but would make a vastly superior Bludd figure.

I've seen Bludd's pic without the blur. I'll see if I can find it.

Wow, not too sure I'll be picking any of these up, but you guys have at it.

Hope Major Bludd's head sculpt is blurred on the figure as well. They could just melt plastic together, you know, and it would still be cool.

And is that the Baroness or Kim Deal from the Breeders?

I hope we get a singles carded Breaker with the right short sleeves now.

Now when people say "What does complaining get you?" I can say. "It got me a Flint with Short Sleeves and Gloves."

Very good point! I say we keep complaining about Bludd (and Zartan and Serpentor) until we get the versions we want. And we'll still need a "classic-style" Flint with the new arms too...

I did not like the DTC Bludd either. Before that was the Python Patrol Major Bludd with Zaps body. Why does he always get the shaft?

slim19722 - 2008-01-26 @ 3:02 am

People say the DTC Bludd is better than the upcoming one, but yet the DTC version uses parts from Black Out & Firefly. And DTC Bludd looked nothing like the original, the upcoming one does.
