New G.I. Joe: Cold Slither Comic Coming From Skybound

by Jay Cochran
July 10, 2025
Today Skybound, announced the all-new comic book one-shot G.I. JOE: Cold Slither #1 from the head banging band of writer Tim Seeley (Rogue, Local Man), artist Juann Cabal (Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man), colorist Rex Lokus (Aquaman), and letterer Pat Brosseau (Batman and Robin). The loudest G.I. JOE launch of the year will hit comic book shelves on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.

"The catchiest song ever to grace a military themed toy line has lived in my head rent-free for forty years, so I'm happy to drag it out, and write the true story of the scrappy band of miscreants who recorded it,” said Tim Seeley.
"My parents met at a Cold Slither gig back in the '80s, so getting to draw this one-shot has been really special for me,” said Juann Cabal.

Tune up your air guitar and turn off your free will, the greatest band ever reunites to rock and rule the world!

Discover the true story (or at least a wildly biased version) of what happened to Cold Slither through the eyes of the band themselves (who are definitely not the Dreadnoks in eyeliner...promise).

But as Cobra is topping the charts and dominating the world, can G.I. Joe stop them before the final encore?
Get ready for a comic book so loud, even sonic earplugs won’t save you...

“To say this face-melting issue was a labor of love is an understatement,” shouted Ben Abernathy, Executive Editor. “Getting this motley crew of creators together for this incisive and heartfelt look at the rise and fall of the legendary Cold Slither was a heavy metal dream come true!”

In addition to the main cover by Steve Beach, the variant covers for G.I. JOE: Cold Slither #1 include an open to order cover by Juann Cabal, a 1:10 incentive variant by Brent Schoonover, a 1:25 incentive variant by Steve Beach, and a blank sketch cover.

Gotta be honest, loving the way they are promoting this.

Absolutely. This is some fresh vibes for sure. Also, I'm glad they chose this type of music video format.

It's kinda the next level from that Knights of Unicron Transformers SDCC back in 2014. I did listen to the Thunder Machine track and the song's not bad but really needs grittier vocals...

Yeah but gritty wasn't really the style of glam metal

I'm sorry but I was not impressed with their version of "Cold Slither" I prefer the original which seemed more "rock n roll"

they all seem rather muted

Look up 1:12 drums on Etsy:

They come from overseas so it will take a month, but I was impressed by what I got.

Full kit. Not sure what the shells are made of but they have multiple colors and wood grains.

Metal bits are actual metal... so like cymbals and cymbal stands are actually metal, with moving parts as well.

The drum heads are laminated card stock.

And you can find them with different logos (or no logos) on the kick. I bought one with a Zildjian logo.

I expected the worst and got something great that you literally cannot find anywhere else (I dont even see the etsy drums on ebay, at least last time I checked)

I like what Hasbro did as well (I really do), but the Etsy drums look like model/miniatures while Hasbro's looks like a toy.

Edit: Why am I typing all this when I could just...

I hope we get another way to get a drum kit... that's the only reason I want this. The drums. I need to stop wasting time and start learning how to sculpt digitally and 3D print and paint accessories.
