Loudest Scream Contest Held in Celebration of K’NEX’s 10th Anniversary and the
Phenomenal Retail Success of the Company’s Screamin’ Serpent Roller Coaster

Buena Park, CA - September 17, 2002 – K’NEX Industries, Inc., one of the world’s leading construction toy manufacturers, announced today that it is working with Knott’s Theme Park, US Airways, and Toys “R” Us to host the K’NEX Screamin’ Serpent Roller Coaster “LOUDEST Scream” Contest at Knott’s Theme Park in Buena Park, CA on Saturday, September 21, 2002 from Noon to 8:00 PM. The grand prize winner will receive a trip for a family of four to New York City via US Airways to attend the “K’NEX 10th Anniversary Bash” event at the Toys “R” Us Times Square store on October 12, 2002.

The event honors the continued 2002 runaway retail success of the #1 construction toy in the building sets category for 2001, K’NEX’s Screamin’ Serpent Roller Coaster and Knott's Theme Park’s unveiling of the XCELERATORSM – its all-new 1950’s themed roller coaster that popped the clutch on June 22, 2002.

On Saturday, September 21, 2002, K’NEX, Knott’s Theme Park, US Airways, and Toys “R” Us are inviting all kids -- ages 5 to 16 years old -- to compete in the K’NEX Screamin’ Serpent Roller Coaster’s “LOUDEST Scream” Contest.

Contestants will sit in a life-size roller coaster car on the Knott’s Theme Park Boardwalk directly in front of the XCELERATOR Roller Coaster, which will inspire contestants to let out their loudest roller-coaster-riding SCREAM! A sound decibel meter will determine the “Loudest Scream” in each of four different age groups – 5 to 7 years old, 8 to 10 years old, 11 to 13 years old, and 14 to 16 years old. Final decibel readings of the top contestants’ screams will be submitted to Guinness World Records in an attempt to establish a loudest scream world record.

As a complement to the “LOUDEST Scream” Contest, K’NEX will mount a Screamin’ Serpent Roller Coaster Exhibition, which will include a built model of the award winning Screamin’ Serpent Roller Coaster and an inspirational coaster build created out of two Screamin’ Serpent Building sets. These models will be on view at Knott’s Theme Park from 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM on the day of the “LOUDEST Scream” Contest. The contest and exhibition will be documented by the television series, "fun!", for international broadcast later this year.

One grand prize winner will receive a trip for a family of four via US Airways to New York City to attend the “K’NEX 10th Anniversary Bash” event, which celebrates K’NEX’s 10th Anniversary, at Toys ‘R’ Us Times Square from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Saturday, October 12, 2002. In addition to their trip to New York City via US Airways, the winner will also receive a K’NEX Screamin’ Serpent Roller Coaster Building Set, and a K’NEX Screamin’ Serpent “LOUDEST Scream” Contest commemorative badge and certificate. The “LOUDEST Screamer” from each Individual age category will win a K’NEX Screamin’ Serpent Roller Coaster construction set.
