Bloomberg is reporting that online retail giant Amazon.com is considering buying up a number of soon to be vacated Toys' R Us retail spaces so it can expand it's physical retail imprint into the world. To be clear Amazon is not interested in operating under the Toys R' Us name, only in possibly taking over several of the retail locations and making them their own stores that would sell a variety of products, not just toys. Amazon has already expanded into the grocery business after it recently purchased the Whole Foods Market Inc. which included 450 physical grocery stores last year. Neither Amazon nor Toys R' Us was willing to comment on this latest development.
Meanwhile we continue to wait and see the final outcome for the bid made by a group led by MGA Entertainment to buy the Canadian division of Toys R' Us which could also include up to 200 stores here in the United States. We could hear something as early as today on the status of that, so be sure to stay-tuned for updates on all this as they develop.
