UPDATE 2: We have gotten reports that most Toys R' Us stores have begun their liquidation sales stating off with 10% discounts on most products and 5% on LEGO items.
UPDATE: CNN has reported that it looks like the clearance sales are being delayed until tomorrow (3/23) instead of today as previously reported.
According to
USAToday, Toys R' Us is looking to begin liquidation sales at most of their US based stores starting tomorrow, 3/22. The plan is to have everything cleared out in 14 weeks, by the end of June. Some stores will likely close sooner than that, depending on how fast stuff sells. Distribution centers that supply stores will also shut down sooner than the stores themselves.
For those wondering, it's still possible a potential deal to keep up to 200 U.S. stores open as part of a package deal to sell its Canadian operations could happen. Reports have indicated that up to 20 different parties have expressed interest in the more healthy Canadian division of the company including a group led by MGA Entertainment.
Reuters reported yesterday that Toys R' Us was seeking permission from the courts to be able to receive bids up until March 26 for each of it's foreign business divisions, minus the U.K. which is closing all it's doors. An auction would then take place on March 29 for these divisions where it is expected the final outcome for the Canada/200 US stores deal would be determined.
