Invincible #0
Probably the Best Superhero Comic Book in the Universe for 50 Cents
For those of you who have not been following Invincible nor have no idea who or what I’m talking about, this is the issue for you.
Invincible is about a superhero named Mark Grayson, who finally got his powers within his senior year of high school. His dad is also a Superhero and from another planet. The book follows the adventures of Mark Grayson as he is learning to use his powers and dealing with school in the process. What makes him different is that his Dad was really there to take over the planet and betrays Earth by killing its strongest heroes and nearly killing his son in the process. So that was a wrap up a small part of the story.
This issue is called the origin issue. We get to hear Mark's origin's and what he has went through up to this point from his mouth. As is girlfriend has recently found out he is Invincible, the hero. So how did it turn out?
I will first admit that I bought a bunch of copies. I handed them out to anyone who has not read Invincible. I am a strong supporter of this title and I try to get as many new readers on it as possible.
This issue was the perfect jump on point, as it wrapped up everything Mark has been through, but not enough to just spoil every little thing that he has been through since issue #1. This issue will also lead into #23, so if you liked the issue, you can just jump right into the title.
The great thing about this issue was it wasn’t pointless to those who have been on the book before this came out. It was still just as great and somewhat just as important to the overall collection.
The thing I like about this book is that it has more of a realistic look onto the superhero universe. They joke about certain things that you’ve always wondered about or joked about in general. It is a fun and serious book at the same time.
I met Robert Kirkman at the Wizard World Chicago con last year, and let me say that he is a great person to talk to. He has really impressed me greatly with this book. I remember getting the first two trades of this at the Con and I considered this the best deal I got at the Con. I’m glad Kirkman is writing this and other titles such as Marvel Team-Up (Highly suggest that title) as well.
Ryan Ottley’s art has been great as well. He really brings the character to life with a simple yet outstanding design. I'd be sad if he ever left the title because I can’t imagine the book without him.
I will go ahead and say this has to be Image's best title out right now as well as one of the best books out in general.
To conclude, I give this issue 8.5 out of 10, and the overall series so far 10 out of 10. This is one of the books I am always looking forward to each and every month. I love this title to death.
