CHICAGO, IL -- April 28, 2004
A lot is happening with Devil’s Due Publishing, and sometimes it’s just too much to cover everything in individual announcements. So below we’ve provided a number of updates on current happenings:
• G.I.JOE: MASTER AND APPRENTICE, originally scheduled to be a three part miniseries, has been expanded to four issues, due in part to concerns that the story may need more ‘breathing room.’ Response to the story concept and artwork has been great, and DDP production approved the extra issue with no problem.
G.I.JOE: MASTER AND APPRENTICE reveals the origin of KAMAKURA, apprentice to the ever popular SNAKE-EYES. Kamakura was created by former
G.I.JOE writer and Devil’s Due president, Joshua Blaylock in the current ongoing
G.I.JOE: A REAL AMERICAN HERO series, and has since been brought to life as a
G.I.JOE action figure. MASTER AND APPRENTICE is written by Brandon Jerwa with art by Stefano Caselli and Sunder Raj.
• HACK/SLASH continues to sell briskly after its debut in early April, and Hollywood buzz continues. There was a slight error at the printer, though, causing some books to be released with duplicates of the first two pages and last two pages, also causing four pages to be missing.
The number of misbound copies is thought to be under five hundred, but Devil’s Due encourages concerned readers to notify their retailers. More are in stock at Diamond, and new copies may be ordered. Readers may also send defective books to Devil’s Due Publishing, ATTN: H/S MISPRINT, 4619 N. Ravenswood Ave, Ste. 204, Chicago, IL 60640, and a replacement will be sent at no extra charge.
HACK/SLASH stars Cassie Hack, the daughter of a notorious undead SLASHER, and her sidekick, VLAD, as they scour the country, killing these monstrosities… again. Cassie and crew were created by Tim Seeley and Stefano Caselli. Weeks ago, HACK/SLASH was optioned by Prime Universe, the production company of movie producer Adrian Askarieh, and is making the rounds in the video game circuit as well.
• MISPLACED issue #4, the pet project of Devil’s Due president, Joshua Blaylock, has been put on delay, and will be released sometime in 2004. “I apologize to the small loyal group of fans who support this book,” Blaylock says. “I never wanted to get into this situation, but running the company takes so much time and concentration, something had to be put on the backburner, and since Misplaced is my “vanity project,” it had to be the one.”
Misplaced was originally released through Image Comics for the first two issues, and issue three debuted from Devil’s Due in February.
• VOLTRON # 7 and 8 will sport covers by none other than TRANSFORMERS G1 artist DON FIGUEROA. The Voltron ongoing series debuted in January, and was met with very positive reviews from both critics and fans. What was once thought of as an 80’s nostalgia book is being taken more seriously thanks to the solid writing of Dan Jolley and the art of EJ Su and Clint Hilinski.
An all new VOLTRON: DEFENDER OF THE UNIVERSE animated series is currently in the works, based on the new style of the Devil’s Due comic books.
• JOSH BLAYLOCK, along with Devil’s Due cohort, Susan Bishop, will be appearing at the Pittsburgh Comicon this weekend promoting WSARSTONE, the new 48 page one-shot written by Blaylock with art by Matt and Mike Cossin.
WarStone, described as INDEPENDENCE DAY VIA LORD OF THE RINGS, is a post-modern fantasy adventure in which a land of Wizards, Dragons and Elves invade present day Earth in search of a new supply of magic, which is dwindling in their world. The super-sized one-shot hits stands in May.
• SENIOR EDITOR HIRED: MARK POWERS, formerly of Marvel, has taken a full time position at Devil’s Due. Mark brings ten years of experience to the plate, and a whole new circle of talent. For the majority of the 1990’s, Powers edited such books as X-MEN and WOLVERINE, and Devil’s Due is proud to have him on board.
For the foreseeable future, all submissions will be forwarded to Powers or assistant.
Look for major upcoming announcements at this summers conventions involving the entire stable of Devil’s Due books, including some NEW series developed in house.
