The Grudge Scares Away Competition For Second Straight Week!

Columbia Pictures' horror thriller The Grudge, starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, held on to the top spot for a second straight weekend making an estimated $22.4 million to take its two-week total to $71.3 million. The Sam Raimi produced film carried a production budget of less than $10 million.

Universal Pictures biopic Ray, starring Jamie Foxx as Ray Charles, opened in second place with $20.1 million from 2,006 theaters. The drama cost about $40 million to make.

Lions Gate thriller Saw debuted in the third spot to $17.4 million from 2,315 theaters.

Fourth place belonged to DreamWorks hit Shark Tale which collected another $8 million. The $75 million-budgeted animated comedy has earned an impressive $147.4 million in five weeks.

Miramax's Shall We Dance? rounded out the top five with $6.3 million. The romantic comedy has made $33.9 million in three weeks.

Nicole Kidman drama Birth also opened in just 550 theaters and made $1.7 million. The film was released by New Line Cinema.
