Ben Jones, the original 'Cooter' in "The Dukes of Hazzard", is gunning to reprise his role for the film version.
The actor turned congressman - it's either to Congress or Smallville, Kansas, you end up after 'Dukes' I hear - says no one can play that character better than him. "Once you're Cooter, you're always Cooter", he tells

He's not taking it on the chin either. Jones has apparently penned a letter to the producers stating how unhappy he is with their casting choices. He thinks it should've been the original gang behind the wheel of the General-Lee. If need be, they can pass the torch to a 'next generation', sometime in the feature.
So far, the only actor that's name has been mentioned for the part of Cooter is Jon Reep - the "HEMI guy" in the Dodge Ram commercials - but no word if he's a lock for that part yet. Or atleast, Jones hopes not.
