Original 'Cooter' wants in on Dukes

Ben Jones, the original 'Cooter' in "The Dukes of Hazzard", is gunning to reprise his role for the film version.

The actor turned congressman - it's either to Congress or Smallville, Kansas, you end up after 'Dukes' I hear - says no one can play that character better than him. "Once you're Cooter, you're always Cooter", he tells wavy.com.

He's not taking it on the chin either. Jones has apparently penned a letter to the producers stating how unhappy he is with their casting choices. He thinks it should've been the original gang behind the wheel of the General-Lee. If need be, they can pass the torch to a 'next generation', sometime in the feature.

So far, the only actor that's name has been mentioned for the part of Cooter is Jon Reep - the "HEMI guy" in the Dodge Ram commercials - but no word if he's a lock for that part yet. Or atleast, Jones hopes not.
