Street Fighter #14
Ryu vs. Balrog & Guile vs. Vega
Street Fighter has always been one of my favorite games when I was young. Even today I still play the game. One of the most popular fighting games of all time if not the most. The game has had anime, cartoon series, a live action movie (not the best way to remember it), toys (the Sota figures rule) and more. So now, Street Fighter has a comic book out. I’m not going to lie; this is one of my favorite comic books out right now.
This book alone has reminded me why I love the game so much. So much detail is put into the characters. This book has even given me reasons to care for certain characters I disliked in the game. I was never a Guile fan when the game was out, but the creative team put so much into his character and now I can call myself a fan of Guile now.
So enough about that let me go into detail about the current issue. I will already say that I enjoyed it. I enjoy this book every month. So let me start by giving a brief wrap up of the current story.
In the latest issue of Street Fighter, Sakura finally mastered the Hadouken, Ryu bested Balrog, and Guile saved Ken from Vega to make a long story short. I like how they made Balrog a real threat as he really gave Ryu a hard time. His raw power was overwhelming Ryu until he took advantage of the fact that he only uses his upper body.
This comic has done a great job making Vega the vicious character he should be. He is truly a sick person and not as girly as some have made him seem in the past. Honestly, the game did him no justice in the past.
Another character they made me care for is Balrog. I used to hate Balrog honestly. After this issue, I kind of like the guy now.
Now this book has always made me prefer Ryu, Ken, and Sakura over everyone else in the title. The writer gets the characters down perfectly.
The issue has ended with Sakura leaving Ryu since her summer vacation is over, Ken is recovering in the hospital and Guile is reunited with his wife. Rose is still monitoring Cammy as she has made an alliance with Chun-li as well as the Bison situation.
Now the sad part is that this book will be going on a small hiatus. They will return soon but not soon enough!
The creative team here has really impressed me a lot. The writing and the Art team here have made sure that when you look and read this book, it reminds you of the way the characters were in the past. You feel right at home when you read this book.
The back story featuring Guile and Charlie was nice as well. I was surprised to see Carlo Baberi behind the art, since I was a fan of his Impulse run.
Over all, this book has been a great read from the start. I highly suggest this title to any comic fan in general. It is simply an amazing book.
I will give this issue 9.5 out of 10. The only thing that takes away from the book in general is the length of the main story is cut short due to the back story, which is pure torture sometimes.
