Hasbro's CEO Chris Cocks is making the media rounds once again sounding the alarm that recent Tariffs could cause toy prices to start rising just in time for the Holidays. He made similar statements back in
March as well.
Most of Hasbro's action figures are produced in China which currently has a 30% Tariff placed on it and Vietnam which indications suggest will see a 20% tariff.
Cocks suggests that consumers could start seeing prices on toys go up in the August through October timeframe.
Cocks also pushed back on the idea that foreign countries absorb tariff costs. “It’s always a business working with another business that absorbs things, foreign suppliers have thin margins – about 2 to 3% – so they can’t afford to absorb 10% tariffs". So ultimately, Hasbro will pay more to import its products.
