September 20, 2018

CBS All Access today announced that STAR TREK: SHORT TREKS, four stand-alone short stories, will begin rolling out on Thursday, Oct. 4, in anticipation of the early 2019 return of STAR TREK: DISCOVERY. Each short will run approximately 10-15 minutes and will be an opportunity for fans to dive deeper into key themes and characters that fit into STAR TREK: DISCOVERY and the expanding "Star Trek" universe.

Each of the STAR TREK: SHORT TREKS four stories will center on a key character, including familiar faces from STAR TREK: DISCOVERY: Mary Wiseman (Tilly), Doug Jones (Saru) and Rainn Wilson (Harry Mudd), in a short he will also direct, as well as a new character unfamiliar to fans, Craft, played by Aldis Hodge.

The four installments of STAR TREK: SHORT TREKS will roll out as follows:

"Runaway" - Thursday, Oct. 4

Onboard the U.S.S. Discovery, Ensign Tilly (Mary Wiseman) encounters an unexpected visitor in need of help. However, this unlikely pair may have more in common than meets the eye.

Written by Jenny Lumet & Alex Kurtzman. Directed by Maja Vrvilo.

"Calypso" - Thursday, Nov. 8

After waking up in an unfamiliar sickbay, Craft (Aldis Hodge) finds himself on board a deserted ship, and his only companion and hope for survival is an A.I. computer interface.

Teleplay by Michael Chabon. Story by Sean Cochran and Michael Chabon.

Directed by Olatunde Osunsanmi.

"The Brightest Star" - Thursday, Dec. 6

Before he was the first Kelpien to join Starfleet, Saru (Doug Jones) lived a simple life on his home planet of Kaminar with his father and sister. Young Saru, full of ingenuity and a level of curiosity uncommon among his people, yearns to find out what lies beyond his village, leading him on an unexpected path.

Written by Bo Yeon Kim & Erika Lippoldt.

Directed by Douglas Aarniokoski.

"The Escape Artist" - Thursday, Jan. 3

Harry Mudd (Rainn Wilson), back to his old tricks of stealing and double-dealing, finds himself in a precarious position aboard a hostile ship - just in time to try out his latest con.

Written by Michael McMahan.

Directed by Rainn Wilson.

STAR TREK: SHORT TREKS is the latest expansion of STAR TREK: DISCOVERY and the "Star Trek" franchise on CBS All Access. CBS All Access also recently announced plans for a new untitled "Star Trek" series featuring Sir Patrick Stewart reprising his iconic role as Jean-Luc Picard.

About STAR TREK: DISCOVERY

STAR TREK: DISCOVERY follows the voyages of Starfleet on their missions to discover new worlds and new life forms, and one Starfleet officer who must learn that to truly understand all things alien, you must first understand yourself. The series features a new ship and new characters while embracing the same ideology and hope for the future that inspired a generation of dreamers and doers. The first season is now available on CBS All Access, CBS Network's digital subscription video on demand and live streaming service, and is distributed concurrently by CBS Studios International on Netflix in 188 countries and in Canada on Bell Media's Space channel and OTT service CraveTV. The series is produced by CBS Television Studios, Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment.

It can be a blessing and a curse, because you can never readily predict what will go on to become the ultra rare, scalperific figure, and which ones will become the peg warmers. Since my ability to pick up figures is so limited, one of the long term consequences is occasionally getting a much sought after figure, discounted, in the aftermarket. But, equally frustrating are the ones that immediately rise, and never dip, to these outlandishly high price tags, so that all hope seems veritably quashed that youll ever actually get one. Unless you settle for a bootleg, or something. Its monotonous.

Well Star Wars Black stuff is very hit or miss, I see them piling up on the shelves all the time. Walmart had the whole Solo wave including Tarkin, Death Trooper, and Jawas for $7.00 a piece last I checked and still nobody bought them. I remember spending about $32 each for a Jawa and Death Trooper. Its like they are popular and hard to get when they come out but then sit on shelves forever after they get their second stock.

Yea, thats the thing about it its so odd, considering theyre both basically being dolled out by the same hands. I dunno, maybe theres some creative issue behind the scenes. Or the Black Series is still fine tuning with the face print tech and such. That could be why theyre kind of spotty, as compared to Legends which is on its like, what, 80th full wave this year alone??

Well don't wait too long, OG stuff always tends to rise up sooner or later. Most of their releases are like 1 or 2 figures to go along side a previous wave. Its so weird and random. I do wish they would be more like Marvel Legendswhich is odd since its the same company.

Ill probably have to wait about aweek or so, before I can hopefully look for and snag a 4-LOM I havent bothered to lookaround at the moment, as I try not to until I know Ill have the funds to spend.

But yea, some of these latest Black Series releases havent actually been part of any waves, have they? I think they considered the first Solo figures a wave. Which was like what, two or three figures? Thats something too, there dont seem to be as many figures that conform to a wave, as compared to a Marvel Legends wave, in the Black Series. It feels like their last few actual so-called waves have been like three figures per.

The only way I'm able to get the exclusives these days is by finding them on some 3rd party collector site and only having to pay a slight premium but its still way easier than finding them in the store. Isnt the point of a store exclusive supposed to be to promote people shopping at your stores? Btw you should be able to get 4-Lom for $19.99, I've seen him all over the place lately and I didn't even know Zuckuss was out. Doesnt it seem like they arent even doing waves anymore for Star Wars Black?

I couldnt agree more, man... Ive only seen the Walgreens Obi-Wan Force Ghost figure at mine and it was there for a long time. Right up until I decided Id probably get myself one, and then boom as if they bloody knew the two they had weregone. All I see on the peg is a New Hope 3PO, which Ive got, a Force Awakens Finn, which I also have, and then that one Force Awakens figure that you seeanywhere and everywherethat sells those figures, Constable who-or-whatever.

Im also desperately on the lookout for a Gamorrean Guard and a Veers. As well as a 4-LOM and aZuckuss. Its at the point where they dont even have to be exclusives these days, to be incredibly hard to find. But, the exclusives are even that much more annoying.

I hate the Walgreens exclusives. I've never once seen them in stores but I hear about people seeing them all the time. But it was still fine because I could always get them off the site like you said. But now everyone knows about the site so they sell out instantly. When the Silver Surfer went up he was sold out and now they took him off completely. I've never once seen the Star Wars exclusives ever on their site. I actually really loath the star wars exclusives, they are so hard to find and are nearly impossible to obtain online from any of the store's sites. By the time you are able to get them its been months since they were released after they get more stock. I'm still looking for some Gamorrean Guards, Minban Trooper, Patrol Trooper, and that one tube alien or whatever, i'm not sure if its Two-Tubes or the alien from the beginning of Solo, I only got a glanced of the figure, oh and General Veers! hes been out so long and I can't find him anywhere. Store exclusives need to die!?
