Smallville's Michael Rosenbaum Passes On Reprising Role For 'Arrowverse' Crossover

by Outsiders
September 24, 2019
We recently reported that Smallville co-stars Tom Welling and Erica Durance would be reprising their roles as Clark Kent and Lois Lane for this year’s upcoming Arrowverse crossover. Among doing so, it was questioned if Michael Rosenbaum would return as well for his role as Lex Luthor and Rosenbaum returned the answer via Twitter on Tuesday, explaining that he was made an offer he absolutely could — and did — refuse.

“Friends, many of you have tweeted and asked me about joining the Infinite crossover,” he tweeted. “I can’t tell you how much this means to me. I’ll just be straight up about this. WB called my agents Friday afternoon when I was in Florida visiting my grandfather in a nursing home. Their offer: No script. No idea what I’m doing. No idea when I’m shooting. Basically no money. And the real kick in the ass: ‘We have to know now.’ My simple answer was ‘Pass.’ I think you can understand why. I hope this answers all of your questions.”

There's not a single person in this thread being critical of Rosenbaum for passing.

Rereading the thread I can see you're right. I must've misread something.

Absolutely not. I wouldn't let ANY job come before family.

If I do have an issue with Rosenbaum (whose version of Lex I still consider the best), its the "if you want me, you better make with the Benjamins" attitude he's copped for years every other time anybody broached the subject of reprising Lex.

The man did a great job for 6 years, and deserves whatever they wanna pay him to come back, but that whole mercenary mind-set and air of entitlement is a bad look for anybody.

I think you all are missing the very important bit of him visiting his grandfather in a nursing home. They're asking him to give up his time with his grandfatherright now for an uncertain role from his past. I'd pass too.

I'm okay with this. First, I still believe his last minute addition to the Smallville finale forced some serious rewrites that screwed the whole thing up. Still haven't quite forgiven him for that. Second, the guy just comes off as a douche every time he opens his mouth.

But hey, if in his little world of pod-casts and failed cable TV series he wants to believe he's Sinatra, more power to him.

Dude, you're like a month older than Rosenbaum and you're on a toy forum holding grudges about the finale of a show that ended 8-plus years ago, maybe you should hold off on the cheap shots regarding how other people live their lives. The fact that they just appear to be asking any random actor who was a part of a DC franchise at one point to be in this crossover should tell you the CW probably doesn't have a clue as to how this story's going to pan out.

I guess it makes sense. There are so many people in this thing, no way they'd have enough budget to cover a sizable paycheck for everyone. Makes you wonder if the people that are showing up just want the chance to play the role, like Conroy, or maybe just need a bit of publicity, like Welling.

As much as we as fans would want to just jump in for fun. This is a professional actor who has a career, and this is his way of making a living. I dont blame the dude at all.

Yeah, its unfortunate that he won't be in Crisis, but I understand why he would pass.
