After global passionate fan calls to action and the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut movement, HBO Max and Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that it will exclusively world premiere Zack Snyder’s director’s cut of the Warner Bros. Pictures/DC feature film Justice League in 2021. Snyder surprised fans with the news this morning during a live online commentary of his film Man of Steel with Henry Cavill.

#ReleaseTheSnyderCut first became a passionate rallying social media cry among fans in 2017 and has not let up. From countless press articles and hundreds of thousands of social media mentions, it became a powerful global movement among cinephiles and comic book fans.

“I want to thank HBO Max and Warner Brothers for this brave gesture of supporting artists and allowing their true visions to be realized. Also a special thank you to all of those involved in the SnyderCut movement for making this a reality,” said Snyder.

“Since I got here 14 months ago, the chant to #ReleaseTheSnyderCut has been a daily drumbeat in our offices and inboxes. Well, the fans have asked, and we are thrilled to finally deliver. At the end of the day, it really is all about them and we are beyond excited to be able to release Zack’s ultimate vision for this film in 2021. This could never have happened if it weren’t for the hard work and combined efforts of the teams at HBO Max and Warner Bros. Pictures,” said Robert Greenblatt, Chairman, Warner Media Entertainment and Direct-To-Consumer.

“When Zack and Debbie shared the extraordinary vision of where Zack wanted to take Justice League, my team and our counterparts at Warner Bros. took it as a mission to solve the many issues that stood in the way,” said Kevin Reilly, Chief Content Officer at HBO Max, President, TNT, TBS and truTV. “Thanks to the partnership at Warner Bros. and the relentless pursuit of the entire WarnerMax team we are able to deliver this incredibly exciting moment for Zack, the fans and HBO Max.”

“Thanks to the efforts of a lot people, we’re excited to bring fans this highly anticipated version of Justice League,” said Toby Emmerich, Chairman, Warner Bros. Pictures Group. “This feels like the right time to share Zack’s story, and HBO Max is the perfect platform for it. We’re glad the creative planets aligned, allowing us to #ReleaseTheSnyderCut.”

In Justice League, fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

The Justice League screenplay is by Chris Terrio, story by Chris Terrio & Zack Snyder, based on characters from DC, Superman created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. The film’s producers are Charles Roven, Deborah Snyder, with executive producers Christopher Nolan, Emma Thomas, Jim Rowe, Ben Affleck, Wesley Coller, Curtis Kanemoto, and Chris Terrio.

If he'd made a decent movie in the first place there wouldn't be all this flurry about "oh i promise the REAL footage got edited out" or "left on the cutting room floor". I don't care whether its thisguy or Ridley Scott or whoever....you don't get to turn in a sub-par project and then blameany and everyone but yourself for its poor performance. Yes Ridley...looking at YOU.

Justice League failed ( too harsh? Maybe "didn't do as well") because DC/Warner tried to compete withMarvel, and they didn't need to. Marvel took its time to develop its characters andstoryline. These idiots tried to cram as much as they could in under ayear or so, due to 1.) their arrogance that "everyone knew" their characters, soit wasn't necessary to give a fulfilling story, and 2.) their greed in thinking they could recoup billions at the box office the way Marvel did.I don't think this HBO extra fee ploy is gonna work for them but maybe its best to just learn from what they did wrong, go back and do it right. They've got the tools to make a great franchise.

I am incredibly curious to see how this comes out. It makes me wonder if it ever really existed and since the movie wasnt great, DC was like lets recut it and add some scenes and hopefully fix and essentially have a do over that will help make their image better. Kind of like in video games these days, when a new one comes out and is controversial say with loot boxes, it tarnishes the brand and company and with all backlash, they end up taking loot boxes out or adding something new to make it overall better to help fix the problem that happened. Snyder cut always felt like a myth more than it actually existed so its really an interesting move on DCs part.

It existed, but all the Snyder fans insisting that it was somehow totally complete and finished and all the efx were done yadda yadda...they were obviously wrong.

One of the changes reportedly coming with the Justice League Snyder Cut movie is that we will actually get to see DC Major bad guy Darkseid. Director Zack Snyder has taken to social media to start teasing his project slated to debut on HBO Max next May by giving us first look at the the villain.

Question is, will there be new Action Figures to coincide with the Snyder Cut? Rereleases maybe. I never got the mafex cyborg.

I think anyone would watch it if it were free. The real question is how many of you are going to sign up and pay for HBO Max to be able to watch it???

Now that's the big question, right? I wonder if HBO Max is viewing this as their"killer app"..... something to dramatically drive sales, like how Mandalorian propelled Disney+ into another stratosphere........ my two cents? They're wrong. There's a very vocal, but small, group who are dying to see this. I'm sure WB has done the math on cost to finish vs. projected income from original online content.... paging, "Trolls: World Tour" success...... but 2021 is a long way away, and this is a film viewed as a failure. It's not the same scenario ..... I know I for one I won't pay money........ for me it's due to hating how Zack views and uses Superman. It's one fan's opinion, one wallet that won't open for this, but my prediction is that I'm not alone. Whether I'm right or not, will be fascinating to see how it plays out....and honestly, I wonder what Marvel in movies or on DisneyPlus will be by then as counter programming!
