Hornet is the alter ego of Britt Reid, an American newspaper publisher who dons a green mask and wields guns to fight crime. He is aided in this endeavor by his Asian valet-turned-partner Kato, with the two speeding around town in a futuristic car known as the Black Beauty.
The hero was part of the pulpy adventurers introduced through radio such as The Shadow and Doc Savage, all of whom were precursors to the comic book superheroes Superman and Batman, who made their debuts in the late 1930s.Hornet crossed over into serials in the 1940s, a TV series in the 1960s, and a Seth Rogen vehicle in 2011.
I would think it would find better luck and home as more high budget tv show on streaming service, but I guess more serious movie can work, granted it can end up on streaming service regardless.
Oh rebooting Green Hornet again...hmmm, I remember the ill fate of the last one, I don't think people will be rushing to see this one, there is no buzz or interest it seems in Green Hornet at this point, maybe just make something animated and move along...
David Koepp has written some good stuff like Toy Soldiers, Carlito's Way, and Stir of Echoes. He's also written some bad stuff like the Johnny Depp remake of Secret Window, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and the Tom Cruise Mummy movie. I think a lot depends on who's going to be directing this second-try-in-ten-years at Green Hornet movie.
Not familiar with Koepp's work other than what was mentioned so I hope he can make something that will last and worthwhile. I always liked the Green Hornet and Kato concept and story so would love to see a new spin on them and maybe some nice 6 inch action figures to boot.
