Writer David S. Goyer Gives Details To His 'Masters Of The Universe' Live-Action Script

The Hollywood Reporter conducted a "deep-dive career-retrospective" interview with The Dark Night and Man of Steel writer David S. Goyer about a script that he penned for Sony Pictures and Mattel Films for a Masters of the Universe project. Unfortunately, the project was declined by the studio but during the interview, Goyer gave THR some interesting details about the script.

“What I liked the most about it was that it was mostly about a friendship between He-Man and Battle Cat. The idea was there had always been He-Men and different recipients of the Sword of Power and that Battle Cat had always served at their side. And this was a new He-Man that Battle Cat and many people didn’t think it was worthy of the sword. So it was a story of the character earning the sword, but, more importantly, earning the friendship of Battle Cat, who just thought this guy was a lightweight. I really liked it. I thought it was a fun story. There was a lot of humor in it and it creeps up on you because Battle Cat sort of grudgingly accepts him, and it’s Battle Cat’s acceptance of He-Man that gave this version of the story heart.”

Good riddance. The last thing we need is another franchise crapped on by some narcissistic jerk-off who thinks the fact he was brought in solely for his name value gives him the right to reinvent the wheel.

I actually love this idea. It casts battlecat as more like the steward of the sword.

Sometimes the director matters just as much as a writer if not moreso. A great director can turn a bad script into a good movie and a great script into masterpiece. A bad director will turn a bad script into a terrible movie and great script into another terrible movie. That said, David Goyer is also a bad director.

That said, I do like the idea of "newb He-Man, veteran Battle Cat," that's a neat take on the material.

I'ma be honest, looking at the guy's EXTREMELY hit or miss track record (and mind you, I don't know that the scripts were the primary weak link in most of the misses, but none of them particularly stand out as memorable or strong in terms of writing either), frankly, I don't want him near ANY of my pop culture movie projects. *LOL*
