New Animated Film Based On World Of Super Mario Bros. Announced By Illumination & Nintendo

Nintendo Of America has announced a collaboration between Chris Meledandri's Illumination and Nintendo, the renowned video game company, resulting in a new animated film centered around the Super Mario Bros. universe. Scheduled for release on April 3, 2026, the film will hit theaters in the United States and international markets.

Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic are taking the helm as directors, working with a screenplay crafted by Matthew Fogel. Universal Pictures and Nintendo will co-finance the project, with Universal handling the worldwide theatrical distribution.

The film's production will be overseen by Melendantri, Illumination's founder and CEO, and Shigeru Miyamoto, the Representative Director and Fellow of Nintendo. Together, they will bring their expertise and creativity to produce this highly anticipated animated adventure.
