Toy Fair took place last month in New York City and debuted lots of cool toys and action figures set to be released in the coming year. With so many cool things on hand, it is pretty tough to narrow it down to the top 5. Nevertheless I took a stab at it.
This list consists of the Top 5 action figures that I am most looking forward to adding to my own collection.
Storm Collectibles already impressed me with their new line of classic Mortal Kombat figures in the 1:12 scale. Their Scorpion and Sub Zero figures combine nice detail with good articulation as well as featuring a good number of accessories. So when I saw their upcoming Shao Kahn figure, I knew this was one I want added to my collection. I am not entirely clear if the throne shown with the figure will be included, but I sure do hope so.
4. Marvel One:12 Collective Iron Man (Mezco Toyz)
I truly believe this could be Mezco’s best One:12 figure shown to date. Based on a more classic armor design, this figure includes light-up features, multiple hands, repulsor and blast effects and even has a removable face plate. What makes this figure so unique over the other great One:12 Collective figures Mezco has done is that is actually does not feature any cloth material. Being this is a suit of amor, cloth just would not work here and I am glad they were able to do this particular figure without it.
3. DC Multiverse Collect-And-Connect Clayface (Mattel)
Mattel’s 6” DC Multiverse line can often be a hit or miss but lately their Collect-And-Connect figures have really been outstanding, and this newest Clayface one that debuted at Toy Fair seems to be no different. Sculpted by the Four Horsemen, this figure will tower over normal 6” figures and feature interchangeable clay hands.
2. DC Icons Superman vs Doomsday Figure 2-Pack (DC Collectibles)
This one was a bit of a surprise when first announced. To help celebrate the original Death of Superman story, DC Collectibles has created this unique boxset featuring 6” scale versions of Doomsday and battle ravaged Superman. Superman will feature 3 different head sculpts and heat vision accessories, and the set will come with an elaborate diorama-type base to recreate the classic last stand of the Man Of Steel. They even have thrown in little add-ons like word balloons you can display with your figures as well is nice display-like packaging. The feeling I got from the folks at DC Collectibles was that they were testing the waters with this set and would like to move in the direction of doing things more like this instead of the accessory packs we saw last year. Only time will tell if people will be open to this, but I was definitely impressed. This figure is currently up for pre-order at BigBadToyStore.com.
1. Marvel Legends 6” Netflix Daredevil
In truth, I could easily include all four 6” Netflix Marvel Legends figures (Punisher, Jessica Jones, Elektra & Daredevil) Hasbro showed off at Toy Fair in this spot, but I guess if I had to pick just one it would be ole horn head himself. I am kinda hoping we might see an unmasked alternate head included with Daredevil but even without that, I think this is a very cool looking figure and I look forward to adding it to all my other Marvel Cinematic Movie Universe figures that Hasbro has released.
As a couple honorable mentions, I was also really impressed with Mattel’s Justice League Movie Batmobile. While not an actual action figure, I really like how this looked and all the cool electronic and remote control features it is said to include.
Also I liked the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Usagi Yojimbo figure Playmates Toys introduced. This is more for pure nostalgia reasons than anything, but I was always a fan of the samurai rabbit and was very happy to hear he was getting a new action figure.
