I think that these look good and the price point of $19.99 is very reasonable in this day and age.
However, if I'm buying generic non-licensed characters then they really need to be around half the going rate of what I'm willing to pay for figures from my favorite licenses. I primarily buy figures for the licenses I love and if it's a generic no-name then I'm not really willing to pay anywhere near that same price. This is where I'll pick up supplementary figures from other lines on deep discount (Ross, Ollies, other clearance), etc. for that purpose - but to pay $20 and up is not going to get my attention.
This is why I have yet to buy a figure from Vala or several other indie lines. I have no attachment to a generic character but they're often priced the same or sometimes more than figures of characters that I do have some type of attachment to (Marvel, DC, Star Wars, TMNT, etc).

True enough, but it's a start. I'll definitely be grabbing some, while keeping my fingers crossed that we get some more "everyday" type people as well. Not everyone can be a mugger. There's got to be a few muggees. Can't have Spider-Man swooping down to save "Street Tough #1" from "Street Tough #2". We need a business man or two, Vala!
That said I really do love the multiple body/mix n match approach. It'd turn into a burden at a higher price, but you can get a decent amount of variety out of these sets for what I feel is an acceptable price.
I like The Black Wave. Will definitely pick some up.
The "Street Level" figures look tempting also.

Valaverse should have had some females to go along with these. Also I echo what others have said, about these all being street toughs. Love the concept, and especially the price, but toss in an office worker/ commuter, that kind of thing.
On second thought, I've not been all that impressed with most of the females from the line so maybe its better to get those improved before adding them.

I'm hoping the NPC line from BBTS will feature more character variety. I'm more interested in cheerleaders, police, and things like that than street toughs.

I think it's an interesting choice to be sure. I hope they limit the fictional characters to maybe one or two per year. If they're really going to for a realistic 1944/WW2 line dropping in fictional characters will cheapen the line a bit. I like the idea of one or two periodically. I think the Phantom would be a good addition but maybe in 2028.
