It's
Wednesday, and you know what that means:
ToyFarce review!
This week, we're having a look at the fifth wave of
The Lord of the Rings figures by
Diamond Select Toys, which includes
Boromir and... his murderer,
Lurtz (
awkwaaaard!). As a friend of mine pointed out to me recently, the weather is starting to be cold - A few degrees less and the season will be perfect for a
LOTR marathon. It is tradition, after all!
The Lord of the Rings line from
DST is a line of 7" figures based on the movies. There are 5 waves of 2 figures (the first 3 waves included a beautiful
13" build-a-figure Sauron) and a deluxe set with
Gollum. The figures are designed by
Eamon O'Donoghue and sculpted by
Gentle Giant Studios.
Boromir of
Gondor, as portrayed by
Sean Bean, has a pretty decent likeness.
Boromir includes an
extra set of hands (with or without gloves), a
sword with
sheath, a
knife with
sheath, a
shield and his
horn of Gondor. The figure has a
removable cloak. The long tunic looks great and has lots of details, but does hinder the articulation of the legs a lot.
*As a sidenote, sadly, the figure does not have magnets all over so that we can cover him with arrows, as jokingly teased by Zach Oat from Diamond Select Toys during an episode of Adventures in Collecting podcast (Hi Erik, hi Dave!).
Lurtz, the first leader of the
Uruk-hai scouts in '
The Fellowship of the Ring', comes with
2 heads (normal and screaming, both ugly!), a
sword, a
shield, his
bow and a
small quiver with
3 arrows. This figure looks awesome and had pretty decent articulation (
double knees!) and great details. With that wave, you can recreate the scene when Boromir gets killed. I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing, but
you can!
You can also recreate a couple of well-known memes with that wave, which is something I am particularly fond of!
The next wave (wave 6) will have
Samwise Gamgee and
Saruman, and the following wave, revealed at various conventions during the summer, will have
Gandalf the White and a two-pack with
Merry and Pippin. A huge thank you to
Diamond Select Toys for those figures!
More news at 11:00... O
ne does not simply review a Boromir figure and not recreate the meme!
