ToyFarce News: Which Side Are You On - 'Closed Fist' or 'Invisible Orange'?

Posing

A great pose always enhances a great action figure. There are a few classic poses that collector love to use, such as the museum pose (same pose as in the packaging, standing straight looking forward), the dynamic "standing up, head slightly tilted to the left", and all sorts of great action poses. Then, there are 2 poses that have been at war with each other for years: the 'closed fist', and the 'invisible orange'. Which side are you on?

We sat down with collectors from both sides, to hear their take on the poses: "The 'arm bent, closed fist' pose is clearly the superior one. It shows right away that the character is really powerful, as he is standing there, valiantly, with his fist up in the air. It's the best flex of power ever!" said one collector.

"The 'arm bent, holding an invisible orange' is far better! The character has so much power that he can hold it in the palm of his hand, and he doesn't need to close his fist! You can tell he's more powerful! Plus, oranges are packed with vitamins, which is also a good thing!" said the other.

Things got slightly heated before we managed to get the collectors to agree to a compromise: The figure can have both a closed fist and an 'invisible orange' hand, and you can switch the side the arms are bent, so that it can be both at the same time! Left arm up? Closed fist pose! Right arm up? Invisible orange pose!

I love shopping the invisible produce aisle! You think invisible oranges make you look powerful, try holding an invisible watermelon!

I figured those hands were doing testicular exams

Maybe, the fist hand is really the culmination of smashing the invisible orange into pieces. And no gloves were hurt during this scene.

Team Invisible Orange all the way. Hell, I strike that pose in my daily life.

I almost never use the "fist" hands, unless the character is famous for slamming, punching and clobbering. I prefer a natural pose open hand if they aren't famous for wielding/carrying something or a hand that can hold whatever they are famous for using. I do notice a ton of villain characters have the same right handed "claw" hand that is often drawn in comic books when the villain reaches his hand up prominently in the panel and says something to the effect of "I'll get them next time/curse you good-doer!"

Overall I don't care much about getting extra alternate hands, it's very low on the list of features I appreciate. Way less important than the trinity of good sculpt, good paint and good articulation - in that order.
