"
I'm so glad I woke up at 2am EST for this!" said a toy collector from Concord, New Hampshire, after spending
¥219,810 (
about $1,460) to pre-order all the new offerings that
Bandai Tamashii Nations had for us today. "
It was either get the new figures or pay my rent!".
Bandai Tamashii Nations had a staggering
30+ new items that went for pre-order today on all the Japanese toy websites, and tons of collectors had set their alarm clock to try and participate to the '
bloodbath', as those are usually referred to...
ToyFarce investigated.
Today (
March 4th), at
4pm Japan time (
about 2am EST/ 11pm PST),
Bandai Tamashii Nations added a boatload of new
S.H.Figuarts items for pre-orders on Japanese toy websites. In that list of items, several fan-favorites and sought after figures, which meant collectors had to be quick on their feet (
and computer mouses/cellphones) if they wanted to grab more than one. As usual, tons of items were only up for pre-order for mere seconds before ending up with the '
Pre-order sold out' banner (
which is a concept in itself... how is something that isn't even out yet already sold out? Can't they just...make more? Do they hate money?)
"
It's unfair that they always put it at 2am, because some people have to work the next day..." said a toy collector from New Jersey who doesn't understand the concept of different time zones. "
I had to set my alarm clock at 1:55am, to be able to already log in and click refresh a few times until the figures that I wanted appeared." Unfortunately, no luck this time. "
The figure that I wanted the most was in my cart, but as I tried to pay for it, it told me it was already gone, so then I went for the second item that I wanted the most, and it was also gone. Then the website kept crashing... I guess I'll just have to wait for it to be available on more websites in the US..."
