It's
Wednesday, and you know what that means:
ToyFarce review!
This week, we're having a look at the
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Original Sketch Turtles by
Playmates Toys. Continuing on the
TMNT 40th anniversary offerings, those figures were finally available on
Amazon, after being only available at
Walmart for a while, so I gladly grabbed a set!
I always wanted a plastic representation of the
original sketch turtles, and missed out on the
Mondo ones and the several other statue/vinyl toys offerings (
Bottleneck Gallery,..), but this year, I managed to get several of them, between the
Playmates Toys and the
NECA ones (
review coming soon!). Those
Playmates Toys figures have minimal articulations and accessories, but just look very fun, like a children toy version of those original sketches from
Kevin Eastman and
Peter Laird. As long as they can hit the poses they have on the pictures, that's all that mattered!
The
packaging is fun, in black and white with the sketch on the back. Each figure comes with their
weapons,
stands that connect to each other and a
print of the sketch.
Leonardo has his
katanas and
2 sheaths,
Raphael has his
sais and a
katana with sheath (
like he did on that sketch),
Donatello with his
bo staff and
Michelangelo with his
nunchucks that can be attached to his wrists and a
crate so that he can stand slightly higher than the rest to hit the pose from the sketch.
A very cool set!
I'm a bit annoyed that both
Playmates Toys and
NECA have already announced the
black and white versions of those sets, because although it was obvious that they would reissue them in black and white down the line, I had hoped that they'd come out in a year or two, as convention exclusives for example. Both brands announced the
black and white versions of those sets before most of us even had those colored ones in hand, that's a bit of a
crappy move...
More news at 11:00...
Happy 40th anniversary, dudes! (They didn't say Cowabunga back then...)
