Well, that escalated quickly! The
Tamashii Nation 2024 event in
Tokyo,
Japan left fans excited, overwhelmed, and
potentially bankrupt after
Bandai went on what can only be described as a
revealing spree of epic proportions! What was supposed to be a
sneak peek at a few upcoming releases quickly spiraled into a
72-hour marathon of non-stop figure announcements, leaving fans (
and Bandai) concerned that they may not have anything to reveal anymore for a while!
ToyFarce investigated...
According to sources inside
Bandai, the event's original plan was to showcase
a small selection of new releases. "
Usually, at conventions, it is normal for brands to reveal a few new items, to tease the fans and collectors and get them excited about what's coming" said a
Bandai employee to
ToyFarce.
However, things did *
not* go according to the plan, causing a full
3 years' worth of product reveals to be blasted out
like confetti at a parade. "
We honestly don’t know how this happened" said one of
Bandai’s panicked employees at the event, surrounded by a growing pile of prototype figures. "
Maybe they were going for some sort of world record?"
After
30+ reveals in a matter of a few hours on the first day, fans had already lost track of what was being announced, as wave after wave of
S.H.Figuarts,
S.H.Monsterarts,
Chogokin and
Tamashii Nations exclusives flooded social media. "
It was like drinking from a fire hose of collectibles" said one collector following the event. "
They announced so many figures that I don’t even remember half of them!"
Sources say that
Bandai's marketing team has been in full
damage control mode since the reveals, desperately trying to assure shareholders and fans that this isn’t some kind of "
end-of-the-line" liquidation event. "
We did NOT mean to reveal everything at once!" was posted on the official
Tamashii Nations Twitter account, followed by 30+ consecutive apology tweets.
"
We’d been sitting on some of these reveals for months, even years..." admitted an anonymous
Bandai executive. "
Now we have to go back to the drawing board. If anyone has any good ideas for 2026, please DM us. We’re fresh out!"
Toy collectors worldwide are now facing a crisis of their own: how to budget for the 3 years' worth of figures they’re suddenly expected to buy all at once. "
I came here hoping to see one or two new figures I'd like" said one exhausted fan. "
Now I need a second mortgage..."
