It's Wednesday, and you know what that means: ToyFarce review!
Reviewer beware, you're in for a scare! This week, we're having a look at the first wave of Goosebumps action figures from Trick or Treat Studios, which includes Curly as a Build-a-Bonehead extra figure. Oh the nostalgia! I'm a late 80's kid (...kidult? Eww.), so I was the right age during the whole Goosebumps craze in the 90's, I had most of R.L.Stine's books, loved the TV series etc... When Trick or Treat Studios revealed those figures at conventions last year, I knew I had to get them.
First things first, please play that glorious theme song to enhance this review. Such a masterpiece!
The packaging on those figures is pretty fun, they are made to look like (enormous) books, with pages prints on the sides. Not really a problem but they are quite big, even if there is a lot of empty space in there. The Build-a-Bonehead parts come in plastic baggies, hidden under the book cover standees, also. The figures were sculpted by Alexander Ray and the packaging designed by Sam Furst.
To follow the order of the books, "the Curse of the Mummy Tomb" Mummy figure should be first. The figures are about 5" tall and have 5 points of articulation (arms, legs and neck). This mummy figure is pretty great since it can be versatile and be used as a mummy for the upcoming Jada Toys Scooby Doo figures for example. It comes with a book cover standee and Curly's leg.
"The Night of the Living Dummy" Slappy figure is next, with this dummy being the smallest figure of the wave. It was the unofficial mascot for Goosebumps for a while for me, since it appeared in multiple books. It might also explain why a lot of people of that generation find puppets creepy! Slappy comes with a book cover standee and Curly's body and head.
Next, "The Haunted Mask" Carly Beth figure. I still remember the episode of the TV series, which was very creepy for a kid (and still is!). I also remember I had a voice changing hard plastic mask of this as a kid, and wore it one Halloween. Good times! This figure is definitely the one that brings the most nostalgia out of me. It comes with a head on a stick, the book cover standee and Curly's leg.
"You Can't Scare Me!" Mud Monster is a beast of a figure. It only has 3 points of articulations, the legs cannot move, and he's quite heavy. It does look a bit like a monster made of poop (you can use it with your Dogma Inaction Figures!), but trust me, it's mud! It looks exactly like the cover, and can hit the same pose. It comes with a book cover standee and Curly's arm.
Finally, "The Scarecrow Walks at Midnight" Scarecrow figure is another figure that screams nostalgia to me, as I had some Goosebumps action figures as a kid (the Goosebumps Monster Bags, which were bags full of slime with figure parts in them) and the Scarecrow was one of them (Slappy was also part of that set, but it was too tall and looked odd). That scarecrow figure is way creepier than the old one, though! It comes with a book cover standee and Curly's arm.
The Curly Build-a-Bonehead figure can be assembled when you have the 5 Goosebumps figures. It looks pretty nice, but is very light and thin and can be hard to pose. The parts being in plastic baggies can also warp them a bit, so you might have to apply heat on them to try to get them in correct shape. Curly, the mascot of the Goosebumps franchise, has 5 points of articulations, even if he is kinda posed, with a Goosebumps book in one hand, and the other hand on his hip.
The figures have great paint apps, especially the Mud Monster, with a bit of a wash over them. Great sculpting and details too, at a really decent price. I'm hoping we'll see some more. Trick or Treat Studios has a lot of great things coming (Texas Chainsaw Massacre, True Romance figures...) along with tons of cool 1/6 figures, masks and merch, and is definitely a company to keep an eye on!
You can still get some of those Goosebumps figures from our sponsor BigBadToyStore!

Thanks for the review on these. A Walmart near me has them in stock, but I havent picked any up yet- though Slappy has been pretty tempting. what is the price point on these? The Walmart doesnt have them marked whenever I go in, and they keep them them in one of those locking cabinet things, so I havent really investigated it much.
They're $24.99. Remember when figures were all at that price? *sigh*?
